Death Notices Ronald LaMar Huffman March 22, 2005 BREMEN Ronald LaMar Huffman, 70, of Bremen, died at 7:55 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. He is survived by his wife, Emilie; daughter and her family, Lori Lynn (Andrew) Nykiel and Jenna of Bremen; a son and his family, Todd Alan (Cathy) .Huffman and Alison, Shelby and Megan of Bremen; three brothers: Marvin Huffman of Goshen, Darrel "Gene" (Becky) Huffman of Nappanee and Donald "Wayne" (Marsha) Huffman of Pierceton; and two sisters: Donna "Cookie" Gack) Hartman of Syracuse and Rose Wyman of Florida. Visitation was Thursday, March 24 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 25 at the funeral home with Pastor Charles Krieg from Salem United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Bremen Cemetery with military graveside services. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospital of Bremen. Police Report • At 3:40 p.m. on March 19, Nappanee Officers were conducting a traffic stop in the 11(X) block of East Market Street when they were approached by a male subject that attempted to interfere with the traffic stop. The subject showed signs of intoxication and tried to leave the scene. The officers detained the subject and placed him under arrest for Public Intoxication. The subject, Douglas Kahler, 33, was transported to the Nappanee Police Department and after processing, was transported to the Elkhart County Security Center and held on $1,500 bond. • At 6:53 p.m. on March 20, James CretacfT, 36, was stopped by Nappanee Patrolman Bill Bickel for speeding. While doing a driver's license check, it showed a warrant on the subject. After the warrant was confirmed, Cretacci was taken into custody without incident. The warrant was for Theft, a class D felony and Habitual Criminal Offender. Bond was set at 55,000 and he was transported to the Elkhart County Jail. • While on.patrol in the area of U.S. 6 and Jackson Street at 2:50 a.m. on March 27, Nappanee Patrolman Jeremy Hooley observed a vehicle traveling eastbound on U.S. 6, weaving back and forth in the lane. After observing the vehicle cross the fog line several times, a traffic stop was initiated on U.S. 6, west of C.R. 11. Upon approaching the driver, later identified as Scott Wakely, 38, the officer could smell an odor commonly associated with that of alcoholic beverages coming from the interior of the vehicle. Wakely was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which he failed. He was then transported to the Nappanee Police Department where he blew a .10 on a certified breath test machine. Wakely was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated and was taken to the Elkhart County Jail. Wakley's bond was set at $1,500 and his court date was set for March 29 at the Nappanee City Court. He was also cited for False and Fictitious Registration. • Nappanee Police Officers, Patrolman Jeremy Hooley and Sergeant Joshua Hamer, were dispatched to 706 Bison Ridge Apartments at 3:46 a.m. on March 27 for an individual who was refusing to leave, and threatening other subjects with a knife. Upon arrival officers were told the suspect, identified as Tiffany Meija, 19, had left the premises. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Meija had locked herself into a storage area adjacent tot he deck of the apartment. After attempting to resist an officer, Meija was placed under arrest and transported to the Nappanee Police Department. Meija was charged with ICOAB, Criminal Trespass, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct. She was transported to the Elkhart County Jail, and was held on $6,000 bail.
