tar. "He's a jack-of-all-trades isn't he?," coach Dan Gunn said about BeMiller. He certainly was a jack-of-all-trades on Feb. 25, because after he put down his ax, he then put the hammer down on the Whitko Wildcats scoring 18 points, while fellow senior Trevor Shields finished with 16.
The two seniors were the number one and two scorers on the team, helping to lead North Wood to the 80-51 win in the team's last game before sectionals. Following the game, Gunn only had praise for his two seniors. "Both Wes and Trevor are 4.0 students, and they probably do as much coaching as Coach Gunn does," Gunn said. "They are great individuals. They come from good families and they make it pretty easy for me. One thing I really think that helps us, is when players communicate with each other. (Trevor and Wes) do a great job on the floor, talking to the other players, helping out and being good leaders. That's what you want your seniors to be." The two seniors were well in control on the night, and were even able to grab a little breather in the fourth quarter, thanks to the lopsided score. "They've been down a little bit, but they'll be back," Gunn said about Whitko. "When I watched tapes of them, I could see where they could be pretty decent. I thought we did a good job of getting into the passing lanes, disrupting what they were trying to do." . The game looked to be total Panthers domination in the beginning, with BeMiller and junior Ryne Lightfoot combining to propel North Wood to a 10-0 lead at the 5:15 mark in the first. Whitko picked its scoring up from there, but the Panthers

ADVANCE NEWS PHOTO/ANTHONY GADSON Left to right: Senior Lauren Zeltwanger (Unanimous First Team selection), senior Audrey Duncan (First Team), senior Carrie Egging (Honorable Mention) and sophomore Mandy Yoder (Honorable Mention). Zeltwanger averaged 10.5 points, 3.4 assists and 2.6 steals a game; Duncan averaged 14 points and 6.9 rebounds; Egging finished the season with an average of 6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.7 steals; while Yoder finished the 2004-2005 season averaging 11.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.1 steals a game.
still took an impressive 19-7 lead going into the second quarter. The second opened with a bit of a surprise to the Panthers, as the Wildcats used a 9-2 run to come to within 21-17 with 5:07 left in the half. ."For them to get to that point, we made a couple of turnovers, missed a couple of shots and I think they just began to play a little bit better," Gunn said about the Whitko run. Once the Wildcats got to within four points, North Wood seemed to take it personal and used a 19-0 run over the next four minutes to take a commanding 40-17 lead with 52 seconds left in the half. North Wood had another big run in the third quarter, outscoring Whitko 13-0 between the 2:56 and 51-second marks in the quarter, with the run beginning and ending with a BeMiller 3-pointer. Following that run, North Wood held a 62-27 lead and the only thing in doubt was what time the Wildcats would arrive back at their school. The two seniors have taken a back seat to leading scorer Lightfoot for most of the season, but the two have been reliable all season and Gunn was glad to see tjiem perform well on their night. "Trevor Shields, probably more than any other player I've had in a long time, has an uncanny knack of hitting big shots," Gunn said. "It was good to see him shoot, and do well tonight."
