Jubilee at the FCDC were going all over the community, collecting donated items. Students at Wakarusa Elementary raised SBOO through the sale of suckers and other means, then traveled to Target to buy gifts with the money. Andrews also collected from the North Main Street Nursery School, where tots had brought in books for donation. The U.S. Marines toy drive, Toys for Tots, was also used for the Jubilee. "Dick Dierdorff, a former Marine, came to us and asked if we wanted to use the toys from the Toys for Tots program for the Jubilee," Andrews said. "He passed away not long ago, so that makes this Jubilee even more special." The purpose of the Christmas Jubilee is to give under privileged parents a chance to give their children presents on Christmas. The sake of the program isn't just to allow kids to get presents, but to also help with children's images of their parents. "Our mission at the FCDC is to build families," Andrews said. "We want to be able to keep the dignity of the mother and father. We ask the parents to not even say where they got the gifts." The Jubilee was held at the Boy & Girls Club of Nappanee. Parents were given numbers, then able to shop for about S2O worth of toys for each child they may have. Andrews know that through the eyes of many, those who need help may be looked at as "lazy", but says that many of the people have just fallen on hard times. Julie was one example of this. "1 had come on some hard times, and got word of the assistance that the FCDC provides," Julie said. "It was really hard to swallow my pride and come in, but it really opened up a lot of doors." Julie had just moved to the area, and says that after paying bills and for gas, there just wasn't much left over for gifts for her two sons. "I just wanted to give my boys something," she said. Before going to look for action heroes or sporty items, Julie admitted that she was in the dark when it came to assistance for a very simple reason. "I never needed it before," she said.

Another person that was eligible for the Christmas Jubilee, Mary, participated in last year's Jubilee, but opted instead to’volunteer at it this year. "I appreciated it last year," she said. "It was a life saver." Mary fell into the same hard times that Julie had, meaning there was money available, just not enough for toys. "I was new to the community, a single parent and a full-time college student," she said. While going to school at Goshen College for an interdisciplinary degree, Mary found it hard to find money for toys. "This is a-wonderful program, and definitely something people should take advantage of," she said. "I just wanted to be able to

help." While Andrews, and the other volunteers at the FCDC, also want to help, they also believe that helping those who are less fortunate is a part of their faith. "God has such a love for the poor," Andrews said. "God's love for children is why we serve." Matt Myers, a senior at North Wood High School, interns at the FCDC and was one of the volunteers who traveled all over the area, picking up the 50-some Toys for Tots boxes. "I just enjoy helping out," he said. "I really think this reaches people."
