highly expected in the Boy Scouts and that the troop wouldn't succeed without the additional help of parents. Many parents attend the bimonthly meetings and regular troop outings. They also help during fundraisers and provide much needed transportation. According to Smith, the "Scouting is Outing" motto still holds true for today's boy scouts. Each troop camps 15-20 nights a year. And in the summer, scouts attend summer camp for one week in July. Through several activities, members can increase selfesteem and improve interpersonal skills. Troop members can improve their rank within the group through community service and the development of life and leadership skills. In addition, scouts can earn merit badges by learning new skills and activities, which serve as basic character-building tools for young boys. More than 100 badges are now available in more subjects than ever before. Some of the merit badges that a scout can earn are home repair, golf, insect study, astronomy, computers, crime prevention, farm mechanics, backpacking, graphic arts, public speak-

The bride, daughter of Kevin and Jill Stutsman of Nappanee attended North Wood High School and Indiana Wesleyan in Marion. She is employed with TruForm in Hartford as a receptionist. Virginia and Winfred Huns- I berger will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner on Dec. 9. The couple was married on Dec. 9, 1944 in Anniston, Ala. They have three children; Trudy (Dick) Holdeman, of Wakarusa; Steve (Jackie) Hunsberger, of Wakarusa and Doug (Lisa) Hunsberger of Apopka, Fla. They also have six grandchildren and six great-grandchil-dren. Winfred retired from Yoder Bros. Hardware & Furniture in 1996, following 50 years of service. He has been the American Legion Finance Officer for over 50 years. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War 11, and
retired from the Wakarusa Fire Department in 1992, following 45 years of service. Virginia also retired from Yoder Bros. Hardware & Furniture in 1996, where she had worked for 35 years. She is a watercolor artist and belongs to the Elkhart Art League and the St. Joe Valiev Watercolor Society. She is treasurer of the American Legion Auxiliary, and is also a member of the .Searchlight Club.
