General Election Winners for 2004
In Elkhart County. 62 percent of the registered voters cast their ballots. totaling more than 61.800. In Kosciusko County. 59.47 pereent of the registered voters cast their ballots. totaling 28,828. In Elkhart County, about 40 percent of the voters picked the straightparty option with 17.400 for Republicans, 7.200 for Democrats and 176 for Libertarians. In Kosciusko County, about 38.5 percent of the voters picked the straight-parts option with 8,706 for Republican. 2.291 for Democrat and 121 for Libertarians. CHtDREhTS BOOK WEEK Children's Book Week will be celebrated Nov. 15 1 through Nov. 20. The theme for this year will be "Books Get Our Vote!" Children arc invited to come to the library and vote for their favorite books. They may also place their name in a drawing for two books by Kevin Henkes. AFTERSCHOOL MOVIE An Afterschool Special Movie will he held on Nov. 18 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. "The Muppet Movie" will be shown. Registration is required to attend.

LAPSfT Lapsit will begin on Nov. 10 at 10 am. This is a program for children ages 15-24 months accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Activities, games and stories are designed to be age appropriate. On Nov. 4, S3OO in cash was turned into the Wakarusa Police Department by Bill Goodwin. Goodwin found the S3OO in twenties laying in an ATM at a Service Station outside of Wakarusa. A younger lady had previously used the ATM machine according to witnesses and did not get any money from it. Goodwin used the machine several minutes after the woman left and before he punched any button, the S3OO and a receipt appeared. After spending over an hour trying to locate the woman, Goodwin decided to get police assistance in getting the unidentified woman’s money back to her. Partial personal information about the woman was on her receipt, but not enough to locate her. The S3OO is being held at the Wakarusa Police Department, 8624200. On Oct. 29 at approximately 11:45 p.m., Sgt. Terry Chanley of the Nappanee Police Department initiated a traffic stop on US 6 east of Guiss St. due to a vehicle disregarding a stop sip. After failing field sobriety tests, and agreeing to the implied consent warning, Mata was transported to the Nappanee Police Department where he blew .18 BAC. Mata was placed under arrest for OWI-Class D Felony, due to a previous conviction within the last five years, and transported to the Elkhart County Jail. Philip’s bond is $3,000 and his PC hearing was Oct. 30. On Oct. 30 at 1:20 a.m„ Sgt. Terry Chanley observed a male subject staggering into the alley in the 100 block of South Main Street. The officer then observed the subject urinating against the wall in the alley. Officers confronted the subject and observed sips the subject was intoxicated. The subject, identified as Christopher Andrews, was arrested for Public Intoxication. After initial paperwork was completed, he was transported to the Elkhart County Security Center and was held on $ 1,500 bond. A probable cause hearing was held in the Goshen City Court on Oct 30.
