Death Notices J. Wavne Fredericks August 18, 2<XW BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - J. Wayne Fredericks, 87, of Bronxville N.Y., passed away on August 18. 2004 following a long illness. Fredericks was bom in Wakarusa. Ind. on Feb. 26, 1917 and graduated from Wakarusa High School. Survivors include his wife Anne of Bronxville. N.Y.; a son William, and two grandchildren, all of New York; a sister Lorraine Wyres of Elkhart; a brother Keith Fredericks of Wakarusa; a nephew Larry Fredericks of Nappanee; and a niece, Linda (Fredericks) Letherman of Wakarusa. A private funeral service was held Aug. 23 and a memorial service will be held at the Reformed Church in Bronxville on Oct. 1, 200.4 Junior George Schlemmer August 23. 2004 ELKHART Junior George Schlemmer, 76. of Valley View Health Care Center in Elkhart, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2004 at Elkhart General Hospital following a long illness. Schlemmer was married to Janet Newcomer in May 1951 in Nappanee. He was a lifetime area resident. Survivors include two sons. Leon Schlemmer of Goshen and Ronald (Lisa) Schlemmer of Plymouth: six grandchildren; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Vera Miller of Bremen; Mrs. Evelyn (Harold) Fox of Bremen; Mrs. Lois (Chester) Narigon of Mishawaka; and Mrs. Dorothy (Thomas) Walters of Bremen. Visitation was held on at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held at the funeral home on Friday, Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. Burial followed at Bremen Cemetery Lindsay Rene Slabaugh August 22, 2004 GOSHEN Lindsay Rene Slabaugh. 22, of 403 Hawthorne, Goshen, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2004 at Goshen General Hospital. She is survived by her father Robin Slabaugh of Goshen: her mother Cheryl O'Brien of Goshen; brothers Lane Slabaugh of West Lafayette; Aaron Slabaugh; James Slabaugh and Jeffrey Slabaugh of Goshen. Maternal grandparent: Robert Frederick of Niles, Mich. Paternal grandparents are Levi Slabaugh of Nappanee and Peter (Arlene) McCormack of Oakdale. Conn. Visitation was held Wednesday. Aug. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen. Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 26 at Zion Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Burial followed at South Union Cemetery, Nappanee. Minnie K. Zahner August 17, 2004 MISHAWAKA Minnie K. Zahner, 96. of 12889 Madison Road. Mishawaka, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Fountain view Place, Mishawaka where she had been a resident for five years. Minnie married was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Wakarusa, and Edward H.F. Zahner on Dec. 31, 1929 at the church parsonage at Zion UCC. Survivors include three daughters. Rosemary (David) Smith Deardorff of Mishawaka; Margaret (William) Copp of Mishawaka; Verna Martin of Mishawaka; two sons, Eugene (Patricia) Zahner of Auburn, Ind. and Jerry (Cathy) Zahner of Wakarusa; Joseph H. Berger of Eugene, Oregon: 16 grandchildren: 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Viewing was held on Friday, Aug. 20 from noon to 1 p.m. at Zion UCC, Wakarusa, with funeral services held immediately following. Rev. Dale Speckman officiated with burial at Rest Haven Cemetery.

Hochstetler said they planted seeds of what they thought were green bell peppers during the first week of June. After awhile, however, his 11-year-old son noticed that a baseball-sized radish had grown Instead. “At the time we left for a trip this summer, the radish was 4 inches in diameter. When we returned two weeks later, it was as big as my head,” Hochstetler said.

The Wakarusa Library will be closed on Sept. 6 for the Labor Day holiday. Internet Class There is still time to register for the Adult Basic Internet Class to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 6:30 p.m. This class will lead participants through the process of using the Internet, using search engines, evaluating web sites, and more. There will be a time for questions about the Internet. Registration is required. Display Shelves New display shelves have been added to the ends of the Adult bookshelves. This area will allow for the .display of books of interest to our patrons on a specific topic. The books can be checked out.
