Stanley W. Berger February 24, 2004 BREMEN Mr. Stanley W. Berger, 86, of Nappanee, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 24 at the Bremen Health Care Center after an extended illness. Berger was born November 2, 1917 in Nappanee to Ervin Berger and Ella Bellman. He married Martha L. Chamberlin Dec. 29, 1946 in Nappanee. He was a 1935 graduate of Nappanee High School and a graduate of South Bend College of Commerce. He was a farmer, had worked at NIPSCO and also drove a bread truck for Huffman Bakery. Berger was a WWII Army veteran, serving in China, Burma and the India Theater. He is survived by his wife, Martha L. Berger, daughters Nancy (John) Mathis of Vincennes and Diane (Brad) Foley of Eugene, Ore., four grandchildren, Laura & Katy Mathis of Vincennes, Caroline and David Foley of Eugene, Ore. and his brother Harold (Virginia) Berger of Nappanee. He was preceded in death by two brothers Dale and Richard Berger and one sister Bernice Knepp. The funeral took place at the Nappanee United Methodist Church Saturday, Feb. 28. Military graveside service and burial followed at Union Center Cemetery. Rev. David Harrold of Nappanee United Methodist Church and Rev. Janet McFallBrown officiated. Berger was a member of Nappanee United Methodist Church and the Nappanee American Legion Post 154. He was a former member of the Nappanee Lions Club and Nappanee VFW Post 6633. Tinkel, 51, of Warsaw, passed away Feb. 21 at 2:30 a.m. at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw. She was born Sept. 10, 1952 in Elkhart to Argyl and Jean (Hall) Rowland. Tinkel lived in Warsaw from 1989 to 2004 and formerly lived in Fort Wayne. She married Thomas Tinkel Sept. 2, 1989 in Warsaw. She was a resource teacher for the Whitley Co. Consolidated Schools and Indian Springs Middle School. She is survived by her husband, Thomas, son Larson Manifold of Indianapolis, sisters Sule Wildes of Warsaw and Jill Ervin of Nappanee, and parents Argyl and Jean Rowland of Nappanee. The funeral took place at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chappen in Warsaw. Pastor Bill Burd performed the private instrument service. Harvey E. Schmucker February 20, 2004 NAPPANEE Harvey E. Schmucker, 76, of Nappanee, passed away Sunday, Feb. 29 at 9:20 p.m. in his residence. He was bom Feb. 15, 1928 in Bremen to Emmon D. Schmucker and Salina Hochstetler. He married Lydia Mae Miller April 24, 1952 in Nappanee. He was a retired farmer. Schmucker is survived by his wife Lydia, sons Marvin (Ruth) Schumucker of Goshen, Raymond Schmucker of Syracuse, John Schmucker of Pierceton, Emmon (Dana) Schmucker of Goshen and Daniel Schmucker of Nappanee; daughters Barbara (Jeff) Smith of Goshen, Mary Esther (Norman) Slabaugh of Etna Green, Katie Ann (Lloyd A.) Slabaugh of Nappanee and 19 grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Freeman (Betty) Schmucker of Syracuse, Levi (Millie) Schmucker of Goshen, Marvin (Mary Etta) Schmucker of Nappanee; sisters Edna Mae (Dan) Stoltzfus of Holtwood, Pa., MaLinda (Leßoy) Hochstetler of Bremen, Mahala (John) Troyer of Nappanee, Jemima (Vernon) Yoder of Topeka, and Salina (John) Yoder of LaGrange. Schmucker was preceded in death by his son Paul Schmucker, daughters Ida Sue Schmucker, Bertha Schmucker and Susan Elizabeth Schmucker, daughter-in-law Janice Schmucker, grandson Darrell Schmucker, brother Monroe Schmucker and sister Mary Schmucker. The funeral took place at the Willard Hochstetler residence, today at 9:30 a.m. Burial followed at Weldy Cemetery. Bishop Lonnie Miller of the Old Order Amish Church and Bishop Levi Plank officiated. Schmucker was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. Nappanee (574) 773-3173 Fannie lona Miller Chupp February 29, 2004 ELKHART Fannie lona Miller Chupp, 85, passed away Sunday, Feb. 29 at 5:40 a.m. at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born Feb. 24,1919 in Nappanee to Noah M. Miller and Emma C. Schlabach. She married Rudy J. Chupp Feb. 9, 1941. Survivors include nine sons, Vernon R. (Mattie) Chupp of Vallonia, Melvin R. (Loretta) Chupp of Topeka, Lloyd R. (Edith) Chupp of Ligonier, Lester R. (Linda) Chupp of Nappanee, Delbert R. (Ruby) Chupp of Bremen, David R. (Lena) Chupp of Walnut Creek, Oh., Rudy (Beth) Chupp Jr. of Inola, Okla., Norman Le (Pamela) Chupp of Nappanee; four daughters Inez (Norman) Hochstetler of Mio, Mich., Anna Mae (Harley E.) Yoder of Millersburg, Edna (Floyd) Chupp of Goshen, and Mary Ellen Chupp of Nappanee, 99 grandchildren and 135 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister Esther (Jacob) Chupp of Nappanee, brothers Melvin (Clara) Miller of Milford, Eldon (Linda) Miller of Sebring, Fla., and a sister-in-law Amanda Miller of Nappanee. She is preceded in death by her husband Rudy Chupp, son and daughter-in-law Ray and Martina Chupp, brothers Marvin, Owen, Willard, John and Emanuel Miller, and sisters Edna Hochstetler and Mary Miller. Miller Chupp was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. The funeral took place at the Lester Chupp residence, Wednesday, March 3. Burial followed at Weldy Cemetery.
