College students take advantage of half-priced tickets at Round Bam Theatre
NAPPANEE have little discretionary income to spend on quality entertainment for themselves. During the 2003 repertory musical theatre season that closed New Year’s Eve at Amish Acres Round Bam Theatre, a partnership with Lake City Bank made it affordable for undergraduates and those working on higher degrees to enjoy needed respite. Students took a few hours to sit back and experience a professional production within the majestic Round Bam Theatre with half price tickets, minus the common restrictions associated with similar discounts. Students from seventy-nine colleges and universities took advantage of the offer during the inaugural program. These schools were located in fourteen states including California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland. Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. Many of those individuals taking advantage did so more than once. Grease and The Secret Garden saw the most students attending with The Wizard of Oz, Guys and Dolls, Plain and Fancy, and Singin’ in the Rain not far behind. Lake City operates forty-four locations in twelve contiguous northern Indiana counties. President Michael Kubacki said, “Lake City Bank
contributes thousands of dollars to support education, humanitarian efforts, the arts, community events, and economic growth and development. The contributions are an important part of Lake City Bank’s Corporate Vision Statement goal of ‘...community involvement that builds values and prosperity for shareholders, customers, employees, and our communities. ” Richard Pletcher, executive producer, said, “We’re visionaries at Amish Acres, but we did not predict the scope of this program to extend further than South Bend, Fort Wayne, and Vincennes. We’re thrilled with the success and will continue the offer in 2004 so students can experience professional productions of classical Broadway musicals at the regional theatre level, often fulfilling arts credits by their attendance." Watch for Amish Acres Round Bam Theatre to announce specifics for this year’s unique college student opportunities before the nine-month season opens. The season will kick-off April 20, with Plain and Fancy in , repertory with The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (May 5 - June 6), Footloose (June 16 - July 18), South Pacific (July 28 - Sept. 12), The Unsinkable Molly Brown (Sept. 22 - Oct. 31), and Seussical (Nov. 9 - Dec. 31). Elkhart County Drive Rite to hold teen conference ELKHART Students from local high schools will be attending the Elkhart County Drive Rite conference on February 10 from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds. The Elkhart County Safe Kids Coalition, State Farm Insurance and Tobacco Control of Elkhart County are sponsoring this conference. This is the 12th year for the Drive Rite Conference, formerly known as Buckle Your Bod. The purpose of the event is for student leaders to formulate a plan they can take back to their school to encourage safe driving habits among peers. While the focus used to be on promoting seatbelt use, Hollie Lambert, coordinator stresses that it has gone beyond that. “Driving is a huge responsibility and teens need more experience before we begin handing over the keys.” Areas such as distracted driving, impaired driving, and driving offenders will be covered by various agencies. Displays will be presented by the Governor’s Council on Dangerous and Impaired Driving, State Farm Insurance, Elkhart County Sheriffs Department and Center for Community Justice. Other businesses or organizations interested in providing a booth during the conference are encouraged to contact the SAFE KIDS Coalition immediately. Space is limited. Appearances will be made by Vince and Larry, the crash test dummies; Buckle-Up Bug, and McGruff the Crime Dog. One local high school will be presented with a trophy for putting forth the most effort in forwarding issues of safe teen driving. The trophy is sponsored by State Farm Insurance agent, Georgia King-Evans.
