Obituaries ___ Mary Evelyn Boettger Jan. 24, 2004 NAPPANEE Mrs. Mary Evelyn Boettger, 86, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Jan. 24 at Lu Ann Nursing Home in Nappanee. Bom May 15, 1917 in Nappanee to James Gentzhom and Rosa (Reed) Gentzhom, Boettger was a lifelong Nappanee resident. She married Howard Boettger on Dec. 2. 1944 in Elkhart. He preceded her in death Nov. 4,1998. Boettger was a 1935 graduate of Jimtown High School and was a homemaker and a seamstress. Boettger was a past president and member of the Get Together Club. She is survived by her son Roger Boettger and daughter Diana Boettger, both of Nappanee. She is preceded in death by three brothers: Roland, Harold and Glenn Gentzhom and two sisters: Mildred Pullin and Dorothy Slabaugh. Burial occurred at Hepton Union Cemetery . Rev. Norm Reimer of Nappanee Missionary Church performed services. Boettger was a past president and member of the Get Together Club. Memorials may be sent to Elkhart General Hospice. Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Homes Nappanee • (574)773-3173 Luther Lee Adkins Jan. 24. 2004 -'GRANGER Luther “Lou" Lee Adkins, 57, of Chatsworth Lane, Granger, passed away at 3:03 p.m. Saturday, January 24 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Lou was bom Jan. 15, 1947 in South Bend to the late Luther Lee Adkins and Elizabeth Smeltzer Stahly. On June 2,1990, he married Pamela Hinton, who survives. Along with his loving wife Pam, he is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth Milliner of Granger, Krystal (Todd) Beer of Bowie, Maryland; Nicki (Nathan) Wiggins of Nappanee, ad Jade Adkins of Chicago, 111. Four grandchildren Jackson, Luke and Tessa Beer and Georgia Wiggins; one sister Deb (Phil) Marsh of Nappanee, two brothers Bruce (Susie) Adkins of Elkhart and Gerry (Cris) Stahly of Goshen also survive. Lou was a lifetime area resident. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army, where he was a Military Policeman who specialized in dog handling. He most recently was an estate planner for AIG-Valic. He was a lifetime member of National V.F.W., Indiana Snowmobile Association and Bent Oak Golf Community. Lou was a avid golfer, who over the years had fluctuated between a one handicap and scratch! His love of the snowmobile took him on many adventures and he traveled around many states enjoying the trails. Lou was the type of person who could accomplish anything put before him. No task was too small and he would amaze people with his attention to detail. The funeral service was officiated by Rev. David Chlldes. The V.F.W. Death Notice Norma 'Jeon' Avalos January 21, 2004 MU JDRD— Norma ’Jean' Avafos, 73, of Milford, died Wednesday, Jan. 21,2004 at 7:20 p.m. at her residence. She is surv i\ed by her husband Pete V. Avalos of Milford; four daughters Diane (Donl Hicks of Syracuse, Eva Howard of Elkhart, Debra (Jared) Hampton of Syracuse and Michelle (Chad) Dailing of Syracuse; a son John (Eva Jo) Blackburn of Leesburg; two sisters Loretta Hackworth of Prestonsburg. Ky. and Joyce Avalos of Leesburg; two brothers Kurt Slone of Ohio and Ray Stone of Prestonsburg; 11 grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren. Services were Monday. Jan. 2b. 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home in Milford with Pastors Thorp and Karen Mitchell officiating. Burial took place in Milford Cemetery. Wakarusa Library News CHEERIO BOX DRIVE The Friends of the Wakarusa Library are collecting specially marked boxes of Cheerios. These 20ounce boxes will contain one of five award winning books. All donated cereal will be given to the Family Christian Development Center. The cereal will be distributed to low-income families for whom owning a book is a luxury. If a specially marked box cannot be found, a donation of any size Cheerios or type will be accepted for distribution. Donations will be accepted through Feb. 28. FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY MEETING The Friends of the Library will meet on Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. This meeting is open to any one who would like to join this group. COMMUNITY EDUCAIION CLASSES UNDERWAY The following ire descriptions of some of the other upcoming classes: E**h as a New language: Improve your spoken and written English in a lively, discussion-orient-ed class at the Nappanee Public Library. This FREE course is offered on two different days of the week. Choose either Monday or Wednesday evenings from 6:30 8:30p.m. Class I begins on February 2, and class 2 begins on February 4.
