Relieve holiday break boredom vrihphokgaphy activities Nappanee parents will soon be searching for ftin ways to keep their kids busy during the winter break from school. According to landscape photographer Franklin B. Way, teaching a child how to use a camera is a creative way to get them away from the TV and out into nature. “Parents who encourage their kids to express themselves through photography not only entertain theirchildren,” said Way. “They build selfesteem, inspire respect for Mother Nature, and teach a way to preserve memories for years to come.” Here are a few tips from the photographer’s website, www.2ndnaturejustforkids.com, on how to get kids started. •Keep it simple, Sally. Don’t worry about having an expensive or advanced camera. Start with a few disposable cameras or an inexpensive 35mm. •Shoot first; ask questions later. Encourage your child to take several shots of the same subject, experimenting with different distances and angles. •Stay close to home. You’ll be surprised at the abundance of beauty you can find within your own neighborhood. Everyday objects can make the best photos. •Color me happy! Choose objects of one color and take pictures with various hues and tones of that color. Make a game of finding how many purple or red items you can find. •Play favorites. After developing the pictures, encourage your child to choose his or her favorite. Be sure to display it prominently.
