Fall Fun Calendar —Local halloween and auhmutfhemed events

WAKARUSA HALLOWEEN PARTY OCT. 25 WAKARUSA The Halloween Party will be held Oct 25 beginning at 7 p.m. in downtown Wakarusa. Everyone is invited to join in the fun. Costume contest categories include: animals, clowns, miscellaneous characters, patriotic pride, storyboook, television and movie characters, witches, ghosts and all scary creatures. Age divisions are children under two years of age; children ages two and up; and adult. Prizes will be awarded in each category and age division. Also planned are hayrides and a cakewalk. Free hot chocolate, apple cider, and donuts will be served. Free candy will be given to all costumed participants. Festivities will be relocated to North Wood Middle School if weather does not allow for outdoor activities. Boxes for cakes to be used in the cakewalk are available at the Wakarusa Bakery. The bakery offers its services to businesses interested in donating cakes. The cakes can be decorated with a Halloween theme or business logo. Delivery is available. FRIGHT FACTORY OCT 24,25,31; NOV. 1 NAPPANEE From the people who brought you the Haunted Farm, comes Northern Indiana’s newest haunted attraction. Nappanee Civic Theatre’s Fright Factory is located in the 120 year old Coppes Factory, 401 E Market, in Nappanee (4 blocks east of S.R. 19 on U.S. 6). The Fright Factory is open Friday and Saturday evenings in October, as well as Nov. 1, from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Haunted House portion is $5, the Young People’s Fun Area is sl, and the Fright Factory Theatre is free. Classic horror films will be shown on the big screen, such as “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” “Creature from the Black Lagoon,” and “Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman,” as well as many others. Concessions and comfortable theatre seating are available. For group rates or additional information, please call 773-3412 or visit www.nappaneecivictheatre.com OKTOBERFEST, TRACKSIDE TERROR, AND HEAD OF THE EIX REGATTA OCT 25,26 ELKHART The weekend of Oct 25-26 promises to be a very entertaining one for the Elkhart community. It begins with German beer, bratwurst, music, and merriment at the first annual Oktoberfest, to be held at the National New York Central Railroad Museum Oct 25 from 4-11 p.m. Located at 721 S. Main St, the NNYCRR Museum joins forces with the Elkhart Centre to produce the event, which coincides with its “Trackside Tenor” haunted boxcars. Children and adults can test their courage from 6-10 p.m. at the Trackside Terror and enjoy the Oktoberfest at the same time. Trackside Tenor takes place throughout the month of October, on Thursdays and Sundays from 68 p.m and on Fridays and Saturdays from 6-9 p.m. Admission to Trackside Tenor is $5. Additional information about the museum and its programs can be accessed at www.nyccrmuseum.org. Thirdly, the Head of the Elk Regatta will be taking place on Oct. 26. First held in 1988, the Head of the Elk Regatta is a United States Rowing Registered Regatta, and is sponsored by the Indiana Rowing Association. The event takes place on the Upper St Joseph River, drawing approximately 2,000 athletes from most of the Big Ten crew teams, plus teams from other Midwestern colleges and premier high school crew clubs. Boats hit the water at 8 am. on Sunday and spectators can view

the races starting at 9 am TSe 2J mile racecourse begins near the old Tusing Marina location and the finish line is viewed from Martins Landing on Jackson Blvd. PUMPWN CAIMNG CONTEST - OCT 27 ELKHART On Oct 27, join the Elkhart County Parks and Recreation Department and a Naturalist for the “Pumpkin Carving Contest” The Elkhart County Parks will be sponsoring a Pumpking Carving Contest starting at 6 pm. at the Ox Bow Haus Shelter, in Oxßow County Park. All ages are invited to enter the contest to win prizes from categories like “Scariest” “Most Unique,” and many others. Prizes will include gift certificates and other great prizes from area businesses. Thanks to Bullard Farms Market pumpkins will be provided free of charge for the first 20 participants and then, at S 2 a pumpkin for others wishing to participate. A limited number of tools will be available, so please bring any utensils and/or tools needed to create your winning pumpkin. NAPMNEE TRICK-OR-TREATING AND HALIOWEEN PARTY— OCT 30 NAPPANEE Trick-or-treating will take place in Nappanee on Oct 30 from 5 to 7 pm. The Nappanee Halloween Party will be immediately following from 7 to 9 pm. at the Nappanee Elementary School gymnasium. There will be a costume contest with a division for preschool through fifth grade, and an adult division for 6th grade and up. Games will take place as in years past and the North Wood High School cheerleaders will assist in cheering on the participants for the games. The North Wood Drama Gub will also be assisting with blowing up balloons. Admission is free, thanks to sponsorship by local businesses and corporate sponsor U. Wagner Home Interiors. TRICK-OR-TREATING AT NURSING HOME OCT 3T NAPPANEE LuAnn Nursing Home invites children to come trick-or-treating on Oct 31 from 6 to 7 pm. CAMPFIRE AND HAY RIDE— OCT. 30,31 ELKHART On Oct 30 and 31 join the Elkhart County Parks and Recreation Department and the Naturalists for a ‘Campfire and Hay Ride.” Come for a night of Halloween fun! Hay rides will be leaving the Red Pines Campfire area at Oxßow County Park. Loading times will be: 7:30 p.m„ 8 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. Candy and homemade caramel apples will also be given to those with a sweet tooth around a roaring campfire. The cost is $2 for adults (17 and up) and $1 for children (16 and under) payable at the Oxßow County Park’s front entrance gate during the event. DESIGN A T-SHKT WITH NATURE'S COLORS NOV 5 ELKHART Have you ever stained your shirt or pants while playing outside? If so, please join the Elkhart County Parks and Recreation Department and a Naturalist on Nov. 5 for the “Nature Nuts: Design a T-Shirt” program. We will be having fun designing our own t-shirts with your creativity and nature’s colors. We will also be using paints, so please wear old clothes. All participants ages, 35, need to bring a light colored t-shirt along to design. Come prepared to get messy and have fun! To register, please call the Elkhart County Park Office at 574-535-6458 by 4 p.m. on Nov. 3. We will meet at Oxßow Haus Shelter in Oxßow County Park from 9:30-11 am.
