Birth Announcement WENGER BREMEN —Amy and Larry Wenger, Jr., of Bremen, announce the birth of a daughter, Rebekah Grace, bom Nov. 30, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. Rebekah weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces, and was 20 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Robert and Karen Lant of Plymouth. Paternal grandparents are Wanda Wenger of Wakarusa, and Terry and Larry Wenger, Sr., of Surprise, Ariz. Rebekah was welcomed home by her big sister, Hannah, age 3. Carl, Gorsuch united in marriage
NAPPANEE Jennifer L. Carl and Michael Gorsuch were united in marriage on August 17, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. Pastor Bruce Groves performed the ceremony and Roak Jones was the vocalist. The maid of honor was Katie Carl, the bride’s sister and the bridesmaids were Tonya Carl, sister-in-law of the bride, Danita Elkins, cousin of the bride, Mandy Booth and Julie Sherman, friends of the bride. Brook Aaron, friend of the couple and Tonya Stealy, sister of the groom. The best man was David Gorsuch, the groom's brother and the groomsmen were Jake Gorsuch, brother of the groom; Adam Bennett, friend of the groom; Mike Carl, brother of the bride; Jason Pickier and Nate Eslinger, friends of the couple and David Galbreath, friend of the groom. Todd Stealy, brother-in-law of the groom and Robert Elkins, cousin of the bride, served as ushers. The ring bearer was Adam Sharp, cousin of the bride and junior groom was Kurt Stealy, nephew of the groom. Mari ah Elkins served as the flower girl with Kerynne Stealy. niece of the groom, as junior attendant. Approximately 250 people attended the reception held at River Oaks Community Church. The couple took their wedding trip to Ocho Rios, Jamaica and now reside at 22450 Breakwater Dr., Elkhart. The bride is the daughter of David and Tammie , Carl of Wakarusa. She is a 1997 graduate of North Wood High School and is employed with Dr. Tad Lovan as a dental assistant in South Bend. The groom is the son of George and Brenda

SCRAPBOOK CLUB MEETS AT ÜBRARY NAPPANEE —Take some time to embellish and preserve those special memories at the next meeting of the Nappanee Public Library Make-a-Memory Club. This month’s meeting on Dec. 21 is just in time to finish up those Christmas gift books. Join other scrapbook artists at the library the third Saturday of each month from 1-4 p.m. to share ideas and take advantage of the library’s idea books, copiers, die cut machine, sticker machine, and other supplies. A suggested donation of $lO per person entitles members to a welcome package full of coupons for discounted and free library services, information, and scrapbooking goodies. For more information or to sign up as a member, phone the library at 773-7919 or visit the library website at www.nappanee.lib.in.us. 4-H ADULT OFFICERS ELECTED GOSHEN Stan Knafel, the coordinator and extension educator for 4-H/youth, announced that Mike Lee of Middlebury, will be the president of the Elkhart County 4-H Adult Leader's Association for 2003. Other officers elected were: Don Prough of Goshen, vice-pres-ident; Bonnie McDowell of Goshen, secretary; and Dave Hahn of Nappanee, fair board representative. The 4-H adult leader officers are responsible for planning and conducting the 4-H adult leader meetings. In addition, they will be coordinating leader training sessions for both new and experienced leaders. The Elkhart County 4-H program has over 60 4-H clubs with more than 300 adult volunteer leaders serving over 6.800 4-H members and youth in school enrichment plus special interest groups regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, or disability. SHOOTING SAFETY PROGRAM GOSHEN —The Elkhart County 4-H Shooting Sports Club will be offering a hunter safety education course in conjunction with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources from 6-9 p.m. on Friday. Jan. 10 and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Jan. 11. This course is required for all those who are interested in participating in 4-H shooting sports in 2003. Other individuals who are interested in obtaining their hunter safety certification are also invited. The course teaches safety and responsibility with firearms. Participants are required to come to both sessions. Participants are to bring a sack lunch on Saturday. The program is free and you must register as the class size is limited to 60. Anyone who is interested in taking the course or is interested in more information should contact the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service office at 533-0554.

Weigh-in began at 8 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 9:15 a.m. New members are welcome. Happy Birthday was sung to Beverly Stauffer. The secretary and treasurer reports were given and roll call was taken with 18 members weighing in. This week's best loser is Jan Hochstetler with 2-1/4 pounds. Last week's dime pot went to Jan Hochstetler and Beverly Stauffer received the Kops dime pot. The challenge for this week is “come back with a loss after the holidays." No meeting on December 23

ELDER HAUS ACTIVITIES All senior members of the community are invited to become active in the many programs of Nappanee's senior center. Elder Haus, located at 252 E. Market St. The center is open Monday through Friday. The telephone number is 773-2424. All kinds of games are available at the center, including Uno. Skip-80. Rook, Yahtzee, and a jigsaw puzzle is always in the works. Quilting takes place all day on Monday and Friday. You are invited to bring a sack lunch and stay all day. There is a microwave available for heating soups and sandwiches. Pinochle is enjoyed at 1 p.m. Mondays, and Euchre and other games at 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Friday is "Volunteer Day,” with opportunity given for cutting stamps for recycling, and for quilting and visiting. The stamps are given to the stamp club that meets at the Nappanee Public Library. Persons who have old stamps nicked away may donate them—they are glad to have these items. Chair exercises are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10a.m. Friday is also the day when “Gifts From Andy” are prepared, beginning at 10 a.m. Anyone who would like to share in this, please come by patterns and yam are available at the center. If you would like to have your name added to the mailing list, to receive the center's monthly calendar of activities, please call 773-2424. The center also provides taxi service, for needed trips to the grocery, doctor, etc., as well as for visiting friends. Please do not schedule appointments on Mondays or Thursdays between 11 a.m.-l p.m., since the taxi is used for trips to REAliiervices meals at that time. The van is available from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. ZETANU GOSHEN The Zeta Nu Chapter of Tri Kappa met on Dec. 10 at Hacienda in Goshen with a social following the meeting. Chairwoman Robin Walter, reported that the Breakfast with Santa was a success with approximately 150 children attending. Organizations and individuals who donated items for the breakfast are greatly appreciated. Saturday, Jan. 11, Tri Kappa will be hosting a Nelson's Port-a-Pit Chicken and Sausage all-you-can-eat fundraiser. The dinner will be held in the North Wood High School cafeteria from 5-7:30 p.m. Adult tickets are $7.50 each and child tickets are $5 each. The boys’ varsity basketball team will be hosting Wawasee so come hungry and ready to cheer on the Panthers! All proceeds benefit NWHS Dollars for Scholars. A round table discussion was held on hints on how to enjoy family gatherings, not feel so stuffed and keep the weight down. The group is encouraged to drink lots of water during the holidays. Secret Pals were thanked and the meeting was closed with the Tops Creed.

BROWN, 60 YEARS Ralph and Eryl Deanne Brown were married December 29, 1942 in Huntington. They have four children: Linda Rouch of Nappanee, Kathy (Perey) Clifton of Phoenix, Ariz.: Jeffrey (Sue) Bumworth of Nappanee and Susan (Tim) Morton of Huntsville. Ohio. They also have 10 grandchildren, one step-granddaughter and four great-grandchildren. The couple will celebrate their anniversary with all of their children.

SUTER, 50 YEARS Lou and Dawn Suter, 806 E. Marion St„ Nappanee, wilLceJqbtate their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 21. The couple was married in Miami, Florida on Dec. 21. 1952. They have two children: Shelly (Jack) Lengacher of Wakarusa and Fred of Nappanee. and three granddaughters: Brandie, Megan and Katelyn. Lou retired from Nappanee Wood Products and currently works part-time at Hard Surface Fabrications in Mishawaka. Dawn retired from Creative Dimensions and currently is the executive secretary for Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County. The couple attends Oak Grove Missionary Church in Nappanee. They plan to celebrate with a family party on a cruise to the Carribean.

RHODES, 40 YEARS Bob and Kathy Lynette (Stahley) Rhodes. 452 Miami Dr., Nappanee, were married Dec. 24. 1962 in Nappanee. The couple has three children: Dan and Rene Widmoyer of South Bend; John and Lynette Dausman and Mike and Tracy Brugh. both of Nappanee and 10 grandchildren. Bob is the plant manager and Kathy is the supervisor of Assembly at Grrreat Creations in Nappanee. The couple will celebrate with a family dinner planned for a later date.
