Get rid of old paint, oil and more Saturday , ELKHART The solid waste management district of Elkhart County will sponsor a household hazardous waste and tire collection ' on Saturday. Dec. 7, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Borden Waste-Away ■ Service, located near the intersection of West Beardsley Avenue and Wildwood in Elkhart. The collection is for all Elkhart County residents. . Types of acceptible waste include latex and oil based paints, motor oil. gasoline, pesticides and household cleaners. Materials should be in the original. labeled containers if possible and no containers larger than five gallons will be accepted. Four tires are also accepted per household, without the rims. , The next regularly scheduled monthly collection will be on Saturday. Jan. 4 at Borden Wast- . Away Service. Student Achievement STUDENTS INCLUDED IN 'WHO'S WHO' AUSTIN, Texas A total of 23 students from the Wa-Nee area are included in the 36th Annual Edition of Who’s Who Among American High School Students. 2001-2002. Who's Who published by Educational Communications, Inc., the largest recognition program and publication in the nation honoring high achieving high school students. Students are nominated by high school principals and guidance counselors. national youth groups, churches and educational organizations based upon students' academic achievement and involvement in extracurricular activities. Traditionally. 99 percent of Who's Who students have a grade point average of 'B' or better and 97 percent are college bound. Who’s Who students also compete for $200,000 in scholarship awards and participate in the publication's Annual Survey of High Achievers, an annual opinion poll of teen attitudes. Military Notes SAN ANTONIO, Texas Air Force Airman Rebecca D. Stickel graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. During six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits twoard an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. She is the daughter of Ronda Isley and Dennis Stickel. both of Penny Lane in Nappanee. Stickel is a 2001 graduate of North Wood High School. Club Notes NAPPANEE TOPS #425 Nappanee TOPS #425 met Monday. Dec. 1 at the First Church of God on CR 7 with leader Deb Perkins presiding. Weigh-in was at 8:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 9:15. The TOPS song was sung and Happy Birthday was sung to Marlene Brovont. Secretary and treasury reports were given and roll call was taken with 18 members weighing in. This week's best loser is Dorothy Troyer. Lois Miller received the KOPS dime pot. The challenge for this week is to measure portion size. November contests winners were given. Lois Miller was the KOPS winner. TOPS was tied at first place for Rosellen Miller and Marietta Schwartz. Second was Donna Schmucker and third was Mary Ellen Gingerich. Deb Perkins read an article on how to cut down on calories and substitutions over the holidays. Secret pals were thanked and the meeting was closed with the TOPS creed at 10:15.

NAPPANEE The Nappanee Public Library recently placed a new color copier in service and is encouraging patrons to attend a free training session on the upgraded model, which has improved image quality and many added features. The sevenfoot cake was made by Dawn Telschow, owner of the bakery, and her father Ron Telschow. The cake consisted of 126 pounds of batter and 90 pounds of icing, which only took 25-35 minutes to bake. Zachary is the son of Tim and Janelle Klotz.
