Hosts missions conference, exhibition
The Nappanee Missionary Church will host their annual Missions Conference and Exhibition on Sunday, November 24, featuring guest speaker Marilyn Laszlo and an exhibition of many of their missions partners in the newly completed 8300-square foot Grand Hall. Marilyn Laszlo is a dynamic speaker and storyteller who spent 23 years in Papua New Guinea working with the Sepik Iwam people. While there. Laszlo translated God's Word into their native tongue. Through jungle living, culture stress and times of discouragement, she was privileged to see God working her life and in the lives of the Sepik Iwam. Laszlo has been a special guest at a Billy Graham Crusade, and is a Bible translator with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Her call and commitment to missionary work was made as a young girl while plowing fields in a Valparaiso farm. Life with Hungarian-speaking grandparents on the farm proved.to be excellent preparation for making her home in a remote jungle area and learning a

The lost Word... Thd SHtig
By lourie Lechlitner My Grandma Lois came out of the doctor's office wearing a sling. “Keep it on to support your injured arm." the doctor told her as we left the office. "Boy. that sling sure is cool looking." I remarked to her as we got into the car. "I wish I could wear a sling. I'd get out of gym class for sure that way.” Grandma smiled at my 10-year-old logic. “You really don't want to wear a sling. Laurie, unless you're injured.” “I'm going to need help clearing the table." Grandma remarked after supper that evening. Grandpa and I were stuck with the dishes while Grandma sat in the living room watching television. Grandma was wrong about me not wanting to wear a sling. I wanted to be pampered, too. I wanted a piece of the action. The following weekend I decided to give it a try. I asked Grandma to help me turn a section of bed sheet into a sling. "Are you sure you want to wear a sling?" asked Grandma. "It really limits you." “I’m sure." I stated that Friday afternoon when l got home from school. "If you're going to wear a sling, you've got to keep it on the entire weekend." Grandma told me. "Gladly." I answered. So she put Grandpa to work, constructing a makeshift sling for me to wear. Since I'm left-handed. I didn't want it to impede my ability to eat. write or throw a softball, so I had Grandpa put it on my right arm. I walked around the neighborhood to find out what kind of reception I'd get. “What happened to

Spotting the Real Thing
Pastor Jim Stultz First Baptist Church, Bremen Have you adjusted to the looks of our new money? The federal government decided a few years ago that the American currency needed a face lift so it began with a change in the 100 dollar bill, then the 50. the 20. the 10 and lastly the 5. Many people at first didnt like the looks of the new money and joked about buying hotels on Park Place with it. Whether we like the appearance of our new money or not it is here to stay. Officials from the Treasury Department have said that one of the reasons that they undertook this

your arm?’ Chris, the boy next door, wanted to know. I had such a crush on him it wasn't funny. My heart was beating very fast as I fibbed, “I was injured." “Is it serious?" he inquired. “No. I just have to wear the sling for the weekend. " "Gee. that's too bad." he said. “I was going to ask you to go roller skating with my family tomorrow afternoon. You can’t do that with an injured arm. I was crushed and considered removing my sling immediately. But my pride wouldn't allow me the luxury. “It's time for your bath." Grandma reminded me on Saturday evening. “I’ll jump in the shower." I told her with a grin. “You can't take a shower." she explained. “You can't get your sling wet." "Oh. that's right." I answered. I laid my new dress out for church on Sunday. “You're not planning to wear that tight fitting thing, are you?" Grandma asked. “Yeah. It will look great with my matching purse and new pair of shoes.” "You'd better wear a loose-fit-ting. short-sleeved, button-down shirt that will fit around your sling better. Those tight-fitting long sleeves on your new dress will really be awkward with a sling on your arm.” That Sunday morning the minister called both Grandma and me up front to pray for our arm injuries. Everybody thought it was strange we shared a common fate. I was beginning to believe it was a head injury that I was suffering from. It was a crazy idea to wear that doth nuisance on my arm in the
change is to make it more difficult to counterfeit. Counterfeiters cost our nation millions of dollars each year and if this slows them down perhaps the change is for the best. Spotting the counterfeit is not only practiced by bank tellers and federal agents it is also done by the people all around us. A skeptical world is always watching and examining those who profess that they know Christ as Savior. They want to know if we practice what we preach, they want to see if our faith is genuine. Im sure you agree that having a counterfeit faith is more dangerous than having a counterfeit 20 dollar bill. Having the real thing is absolutely essential. Do you have the real thing? Do
first place. Sunday evening Grandma came into my bedroom. "It’s time to take the sling off." she shared with a twinkle in her blue eyes. I breathed a sigh of relief when, working together, the two of us gently pulled it over my head and off my arm. At last I was free! But wait! The pain was excruciating when I attempted to straighten my arm. "I suggest you take a hot bath and exercise your arm under the water," Grandma ordered. “Why is it so stiff?” I wanted to know. Grandma sat down on my bed to explain. "You see. Laurie, when you treat yourself as though you're injured, your body and mind will cooperate. That arm has been inactive for only a couple of days, but it has already become immobile. I suggest you think about your weekend of wearing a sling if you ever decide to pretend you're injured again. Those who set themselves aside needless always pay a high price.” I took that hot bath Sunday night, exercising my “injured arm” under the water. However, it took a few days for my muscles to fully recover. From that experience. I learned an important lesson that has traveled with me through life. We can't hide behind a disability for any length of time unless we want to become permanently damaged. (Note—Laurie Lechlitner is a minister and writer who resides in Elkhart. you have a genuine relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ? The Bible tells us that we can have such a relationship. We need to understand that God loves us and wants us to be His children (John 3:16). We must admit that we are sinners and unable to please God on our own (Rom. 3:23; Eph. 2:8.9). We then must understand that Jesus Christ died on the cross as payment for otir sin (R0m.5(8; John 3:16). The Bible then tells us to accept Christ by faith, trusting Him alone to save us and give us eternal life (Rom. 10:9,10.13). I wonder if you have done that? If you havent, why not take time right now and ask Christ to save you. We may be able to fool many people. The people in church may not even be able to tell if our faith is real or not. But God knows if we have a counterfeit faith. As you look at the new money and wonder if it is genuine, look into your relationship with God and ask: "is it the real thing"?
