NWHS Varsity Football Advance-News Athletes of the Week Northwood High School • November ??-November ??, 2002 closed out a respectable 9-3 season Friday night, losing to South Bend St. joe in the Class 3A sectional championship game at Clay Field. Panther League tips off

Play has begun in the fall Panther League Basketball schedule, with games opening November 2 and continuing each Saturday morning. November 2 results found the Pistons slipping by the Spurs 30-24 in the season opener. Skyler Tims scored 13 points and Tyler Raber 12 for the winners. Carter Ammerman added three points and Justin Graber two for the Pistons. For the Spurs, Ben Leavitt led the offense with nine points, while Brandon Williams added seven. Colten Hurst four and Adam Hostetter and Justin Chupp each two. The Pacers opened their season with a 29-17 victory over the Lakers. Derek Loucks led the winners with 10 points, while teammates Brady Klotz and Kyle Whitehead each had six, Brian Ufkin four. Chris Rivera two and Reyd Gamer one. For the Lakers, Matt Troyer led the attack with eight points. Reid Yoder added six. Seth Jordan two and Josh Blessing one. In the morning’s third game, the Bulls slipped by the Celtics 28-24, led by Dustin Herr's 12 points. Preston Swain. Ben St. Germain and Wes Kirkwood chipped in four each, while Ryan Deavors and Trenton Stutzman added two points apiece. Spujs downed the Lakers 38-33, led by a 20-point outburst from Matt Troyer. Josh Blessing and Seth Jordan chipped in seven and six points respectively. Adam Hostetter and Brandon Williams led the Lakers with 12 and 11 points respectively, while Ben Leavitt had five, Brock Bemiller and Justin Chupp four each and Jordon Osborne two. The Celtics and Pistons each evened their marks at 1-1, with the Celts taking the second contest 4132. Chaz Bellman and Arick Armington were both in double figures for the winners, with 18 and 19 points respectively. Taylor Fervida and Jacob Grabill each chipped in four. Michael Letherman and Andrew Smith two each and Justin Wisler one. For the Pistons. Skyler Titus dumped in 18 to pace the offense, while Justin Graber and Ryan Slabaugh each had six and Jeff Snead two. In Saturday’s finale, the Pacers slipped by the Bulls for their second straight win of the season, taking a slim 26-24 victory. NWHS athletes earn league honors

A number of North Wood High School fall athletes have earned recognition in the Northern Lakes Conference, according to releases issued last week for boys' and girls' soccer, volleyball and football. * BOYS' SOCCER—Junior Panther Andrew Myers was named to an All-Conference position, w ith teammates Bart Burkhart, a senior, and Jeremy Wise, a junior, named to honorable mention positions, Scott Bauer. Warsaw, was named NLC Soccer Coach of the Year. Memorial finished atop the league with a 6-1-0 mark, followed by Northridge at 5-2-0. Warsaw 4-2-1. Goshen 3-2-2. Concord 3-3-1. Plymouth 2-3-2. Wawasee 2-5-0 and the Panthers at 0-7-0. *GIRLS' SOCCER— Sophomore leaders Samantha Lewis and Megan Holmes both earned All-Conference honors for the Panthers, while junior Andrew

Defensive back Phil Sumpter, a senior, also earned AII-NLC recognition. as did senior Jordan Adams, named to an at-large spot. Earning honorable mention honors was sophomore standout Michael Ramirez. Brad Park. Goshen, was named NLC Coach of the Year,, with his Redskin team taking the league championship with a perfect 7-0 mark. North Wood and Warsaw tied for the second position with identical 52 marks, while Plymouth finished 4-3. Memorial 3-4. Concord and Waw asee 2-5 and Northridge 0-7.
