Community issues discussed at SALT Council meeting

Applications available for Master Gardeners class
Applications for the fall 2002 Elkhart County Master Gardeners program are now available. The deadline for submitting an application is 4:30p.m. Friday, June 28. The Purdue University Extension Service in Elkhart County sponsors the program. Master Gardeners is much more than a series of classes. It is a volunteer training program, with the goal of making our community a better place to live. Those accepted into the program receiving training on various gardening and horticulture subjects, and in exchange for the training, they donate volunteer hours back to the community. In past years. Master Gardeners have participated in numerous activities in our community, including coordinating the local Garden Tour (scheduled for July 13 in
YSB offers parenting series A practical parenting series (based on Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) is being offered by Youth Services Bureau (YSB). The series is designed for parents of children of all ages. Participants learn effective ways to guide a child through infancy, youth and teens and then toward independence. A few ..of ‘he esteem, motivation problem solving, communication and cooperative family relationships. The program is designed to build and expand on skills that parents already have. This series will begin on Thursday. June 6. 7-Bp.m. and will continue for seven Thursday evening concluding on July 25. There will not be a class on July 4. Participants will receive a parent handbook designed specifically for the age of their child. "Parenting a child is the most rewarding and challenging thing that we will do in our lives.” said Mary Perron, YSB Parenting Program Director. A one-time fee of S4O per person or SSO per couple covers the cost of a parent handbook written for the age group of your child/children, handouts and the seven group meetings. These include annual community observances of National Night Out Against Crime, held in August.
