The Last Word...
by Laurie Lechlitner “I told Floyd he was a goodoff,” my husband Brian remarked, “and that he was a lousy worker on his best days.” “And you wonder why you’re not in management,” I countered. “W£n have I wonted why Twasn t in management: he asked. “And by the way, if I were in management, I’d get rid of most of the overhead at work. There’s too many chiefs and not enough Indians. I’d fire half the bosses, but keep the secretaries...” “Wait a minute,” I interjected, “Why would you keep the secretaries?” “They’re very efficient,” he said with a wicked smile. “Sure they are,” I answered. “Anyway, I think your philosophy is all wrong. You’re too blunt."

Moment of Meditation... Open Doors
by Pastor Jim Stultz First Baptist Church Bremen When I was a young boy, my parents took my brother and sister and me to the grocery store with them on Friday nights. I remember this only because, once in a while, Mom would get us a treat if we were good. One Friday, the Kroger Supermarket had something new that they had installed. It was that marvel of technology: “the automatic opening door.” As a child, I could never figure out how that thing worked. On that particular night, my little brother got loose from Mom’s hand, and wandered in the path of those going out of the store through the automatic doors. He never saw it coming until that door swung open and smacked him right in the face. We had to make an emergency trip to the hospital, and thanks to my little brother and his stitches, I never got my treat that night. Have you ever thought about the open doors that God sets before us? In the Bible, we see several open doors that we need to take advantage of. The open door of SALVATION is described for us in John 10:9. Jesus said, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture.” Our Lord invites us all to enter into the joys and blessings of salvation. He is the only door; there is no back way, side door, or secret entrance to get into heaven except through Him.
A Spoonful of Sugar
“What do ya mean?” he asked. “Well, you should never tell a guy he’s a goof-off and that he’s a lousy worker even on his best days.” “Well, it’s the truth,” said Brian. -r ‘Couldn’t you restate that: perhaps felling" him "that fid’s' very thorough at times, but gets bogged down in details. You could tell him in a nice way to speed it up.” I explained. “I always use the Mary Poppins philosophy: ‘A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.’ Couldn’t you kind of candy-coat things?” “You’ve never worked in a factory, have you?” he asked me, knowing the answer. “I’m really not the factory type, no. But there’s a way to work with people that accentuates their good points and pulls out their best potential.” “Alright,,” he said. “I’m going to call Floyd and hire him to do some handyman work around the house this weekend and watch you manage him.” Floyd arrived promptly at 10a.m. Unfortunately, he was scheduled at 8:30a.m. “Did you run into a train or a traffic jam?” I asked him in a pleasant tone. His hair and clothing were rumpled. “I just got up,” he answered. “Ya got any coffee and donuts?” After I fixed him a small breakfast: eggs, over easy; fresh-squeezed orange juice and toast, he was ready to start right in. “What do ya got for me to do?” he queried. “Come down the basement. There’s plenty to keep you busy the entire day.” As I was

God also speaks about thr open door of OPPORTUNITY. In Revelation 3:8, Christ said to the church in “Behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it.” l_ This open door refers to theopportunities Christ gives us to serve Him. God has placed each of us in a unique plaqe and circumstance for a purpose. We need to go through those open doors and take advantage of every opportune ty to serve Him. In Acts 12, Peter was arrested and sent to prison. However, God’s people prayer fervently and God answered their prayers and we saw hows the iron gates of that prison! swung miraculously open. AsT think of this, I am thankful that God is able to transform our lives and churches with the open door of DELIVERANCE. One other door that the: Lord would love to see opened is described in Revelation 3:20: “Behold, I stand at th£ door, and knock: if any mai) hear my voice, and open thf door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” This door is closed, and Christ is shut outside. He pictured as gently knocking on the door of His Church and desiring entrance. Oh how sad that many of us have shujt Christ outside of our lives. Hi longs for us to have an oped door to our HEART. Don’t be like my little brother and get smacked in the face. Watch for, and enter 1 ,, God’s open doors.
leading the way down ths steps, I noticed I was walking alone. Half an hour later, the toilet flushed. “Are you ready to get t<ji work?” I asked the man. “What time is it?” “It’s close to noon,” I saidi. -He headed out the hit truck. T watched him open hi $ thermos from the picture wins dow. After an hour’s lunch, he was rarin’ to go. “Let me at the project!” hi exclaimed. “We need this insulatiop stapled to the wall studs down here,” I told him. He picked up each strip, separating them into a couple of neat piles. “I notice you’re very thorough,” I said. “But perhaps you need to work on speed I’m sure you’re a very good worker once you get started. ! I just knew my little “spool) full of sugar” would not only "help the medicine go down,” but would spur him on to action. It always worked sos Mary Poppins. She was never blunt—always a real charmer. His grin showed a couple dft missing front teeth and awn oral hygiene. “That’s a nice cat ya got,” he remarked as he patted Max’s head. I gave him a couple of hours before I came downstairs to see how much work he’d gotten done. To my horror, he had fallen asleep on the couch with the cat laying on his bloated belly. I was furious. “What are you doing?” I fumed. “You are a goof-off and a lousy worker on your best days! You’re fired!” I turned around to see my husband standing at the bottom of the stairs. “What happened to Mary Poppins?” Brian asked. “The wind shifted,” I snapped as I ascended the steps.
