SvBITUAL TRAFFIC VIOLATOR %On July 18, Nappanee Police aijested Zachary Taylor, 39, Ft. as a habitual traffic violate for five years. “•Patrolman Joshua Hamer along with reserve patrolman Sherm Yoder, observed a vehicle traveling; southbound on Main St., approaching Market, r Patrolman Hamer estimates that tse vehicle was traveling approximately 45 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. The vehicle w£s stopped in the 200 block of fi}st Market St. £The driver, Zachary Taylor, was f{xind to be a habitual traffic violate*, a class D felony. Mr. Taylor wis taken into custody, and was eventually transported to the Elkhart County Security Center where he is being held on a $3,000 bond pending a probable cause hearing. POSSESSION OF STOLEN VEHICLE On July 20, Nappanee Police arrested John M. Uzubell, 19, Syracuse, for possession of a stolen vehicle. Patrolman Bradley A. Balasa observed a reported stolen vehicle, a 1993 Chrysler Lebarron convertible with a Kosciusko County plate on it northbound on Miami Dr. in Nappanee. Patrolman Balasa, assisted by Patrolman Nik Havert made a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle was recovered and returned to the legal owner. Mr. Uzubell, was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, a class D felony. He was booked and held at the Elkhart County Detention Center with a

$3,000 bond. OPERATING WHILE INTOXICATED On July 21 Nappanee Police arrested Roger McDonald, 40, 154 W. Market St. Apt 1, for operating while intoxicated and failure to stop at an accident causing serious bodily injury. At approximately 5:30p.m„ the Nappanee Police Department received a call of a personal injury car accident. Upon officer arrival, the vehicle which had been at fault by rear ending another vehicle, had fled the scene. Within a very short period of time, the suspect vehicle was located and was eventually stopped near C.R. 46 and Plymouth Goshen Trail. The driver of the vehicle, Roger McDonald had an odor of an alcoholic beverage. Therefore, Mr. McDonald was transported to the Nappanee Police Department where field sobriety tests and eventually a Certified Breath Test was given, the result of which was .19%. Mr. McDonald was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated and failure to stop at an accident resulting in serious bodily injury. Mr. McDonald is being held at the Elkhart County Securing Center on $4,500 bond pending a probable cause hearing. HABITUAL TRAFFIC VIOLATOR - LIFE On July 22, Nappanee Police arrested Brian D. Beeman, 41, Lakeville for operating while intoxicated and habitual traffic violator - life. Nappanee Patrolman Joshua

Hamer stopped a vehicle in the area of 100 block N. Guiss St., which he believed had false/fictitious plates, and also had an inoperable brake light. After a driver’s license inquiry was conducted the driver, Brian Beeman, was found to be a habitual traffic violator for life a class D felony. While speaking with Mr. Beeman, Hamer observed an odor of an alcoholic beverage. After further investigation, and field sobriety tests, Mr. Beeman was transported to the Nappanee Police Department where he submitted to a Certified Chemical Test, the result of which showed him to have an alcohol content of .11%. Mr. Beeman was subsequently arrested for operating vehicle while HTV and operating while intoxicated. He was transported to the Elkhart County Security Center where he is being held on $6,500 bond pending a probable cause hearing. WARRANT FOR ARREST On July 23, Nappanee Police arrested Francisco Nunez, 30, Warsaw, for a warrant for his arrest. Patrolman Bradley A. Balasa made a traffic stop on a 1995 GMC pick-up truck at Main St. and Reed St. for driving left of center when not permitted. The driver of the vehicle, Francisco Nunez, was found to have a warrant for his arrest out of Allen County, IN. The warrant was for failure to appear for battery and criminal conversion. Francisco was placed under arrest and transported to the Elkhart County Detention Center where he was held for Allen County Sheriff’s Department. On July 25, Nappanee police arrested Matthew Todd Martin, 34, 209 Stonewall Ct. Apt. 2, for public intoxication. At approximately 12:02a.m., the police department received a call from a resident at Stonewall Court advising that she and her husband were arguing and her husband was intoxicated. Patrolman Tony Schmucker and Patrolman Brad Balasa arrived on scene shortly after the call. Officers spoke with both sides of the arguement and decided it would be best if one side would leave. The female decided to stay with a friend since Mr. Martin was extremely intoxicated. He began to become upset after his wife had left, and officer Schmucker advised him that he needed to go inside or would be arrested for

FIRE TRAINING—The Nappanee Fire Department took some time out for a training session last Wednesday evening to burn a barn on C.R. 52. The owner wanted the barn torn down, the fire department did the
public intoxication. Officers then left. At 1:10a.m., another call came to the police department, this time from a concerned neighbor. Patrolman Schmucker was the first on scene and found Mr. Martin on the sidewalk. Patrolman Schmucker then arrested Mr. Martin without incident. He was taken to the Elkhart County Security Center on $i,500-bond. On July 28, Brad R. Murray, 43, Plymouth, was arrested for public intoxication. Nappanee Patrolman Bradley Balasa and Brian Nicholls were advised of a man down in a doorway at 109 E. Walnut St. Upon their arrival they found Mr. Murray passed out on the floor of the doorway. George Sauer, charged with speeding 59mph in a 45mph zone, paid total fine and costs of $89.50. Patrick Netser, charged with speeding 52mph in a 30mph zone, paid total fine and costs of $97.50. Christopher Bean, charged with disregarding stop sign, paid total fine and costs of $80.50. Corey Mast, charged with no operators in possession, paid total fine and costs of $200.00. they were able to determine that he was intoxicated. Mr. Murray was arrested for public intoxication and was transported to the Elkhart County Detention Center where he was held with a $1,500 bond. Nappanee Police arrested Todd E. Earl, 22, 801 S. Summit St., for operating while intoxicated, on July 29. Patrolman Tony Schmucker and reserve Patrolman Brian Nicholls were patrolling when they noticed a silver Pontiac Fiero in front of them in the area of Elm and Randolph St. The vehicle turned east onto Elm St. then pulled into the park ing lot of the old Muchler Plant.
