Junior program begins 27th year
Elkhart County Sheriff Thomas G. Snider has announced that the Junior Deputy Program will begin its 27th year of community service this summer. Sheriff Snider is sponsoring the informative program for youth ages 10-13. The program familiarizes participants with progressive law enforcement, tools of the trade, police objectives and frequentlyencountered experiences. During the sessions, sheriff’s deputies will present a variety of instructive programs, demonstrations and intensive communications with the

VOLUNTEERS HONORED —The Woodview Elementary School volunteers were honored Thursday, May 18 for all of their hard work during this school year. Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Joe Sabo gave a speech, which followed a breakfast for the volunteers. Pictured front, left to right:

As a climax, the participants will earn the privilege of taking part in the annual Elkhart County 4 H Fair Parade. Youth ages 10-13 may enroll in the program at no cost, Wednesday, May 31, during the Junior Deputy Open House, held at the sheriff’s department, 111 N. Third St., Goshen, at 6:30p.m.

Crime Stoppers... This week’s Crime of the Week comes from the homicide files of the Special Crimes Unit in St. Joseph County. At 3:11a.m., February 8, a street department supervisor discovered a body in the street, in the 100 block of E. North Shore Drive in South Bend. Forty-seven-year-old Anthony D. Ebbole had been shot once in the torso and left to die in the street. Anthony was last seen at his apartment around 11:30p.m. the night before. A witness heard a 1 gun shot, and saw a nondescript car go south on Niles Ave. Ebbole’s body was found in the street around the comer about 15 minutes later.
