believed was driving at a high rate of speed. The officer also saw the passenger, Jeremiah Price, exit the vehicle and fall into the front yard, dropping two flashing construction lights in the process. NEW COMPUTERS—After three weeks of training on lap top computers, the Nappanee Police Department has made the switch to the new Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) system. Using the portable computers inside squad cars dispatchers can type into the main computer the location and type of calls coming into the communications center. That information then pops up on the portable units inside the police car being signaled. The equipment allows officers to tell the communications center with the touch of a button when they receive, respond to and finish calls. The new CAD system went into effect on October 20. Officer Havert observed that there were two more construction lights on the front steps of the trailer, another in the car, and a road pylon in the backseat. Both the driver and passenger admitted to having taken the lights and pylon. Officer Tony Schmucker arrived on the scene and gave Anthony Price a field sobriety test after smelling a strong odor commonly associated with alcoholic beverages. He failed all field sobriety tests and was administered a chemical breathalyzer test. Price also failed that test with a blood alcohol content of .14%. He was then charged with operating while intoxicated (misdemeanor). Both men were placed under arrest for criminal conversion. In the process officers discovered that Jeremiah Price had three warrants for his arrest out of Marshall County—two for failure to appear at a pre-trial conference, and one for a motion to revoke probation. The men were transported to the Elkhart County Detention Facility. Anthony Price was held on a bond of $3,000. Jeremiah was held on a $1,500 bond and placed on hold for Marshall County. Kiwanibull...
