level, where they will win a SSO U.S. Savings Bond. One girl and one boy will finally be selected at the state level, and receive an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. State winners will be announced December 10, at Indiana Farm Bureau’s annual convention. Eighth grade students from throughout Indiana are eligible to enter the contest, which is designed to increase the students’ awareness as to the significance of Indiana agriculture, how it relates to the good supply and to their health. This year’s theme asks students to imagine shopping in an exotic marketplace and discovering what Indiana farm products might be found there, according to Carolyn Hegel, IFB second vice-president. “They are encouraged to creatively describe this imagined experience, linking the items in the market back to the areas in Indiana from which they might have originated,” she stated. All student essays must be submitted by principals or supervising teachers, and letters announcing the contest are being sent to junior high and middle school principals. Essays must be sent to the Farm Bureau County Women leader in the county where the school is located, and must be postmarked by October 22.
