Local business benefits Area entrepreneurs who are interested in starting their own business, or in learning how to better manage their existing business, can now learn the skills needed to reach the next level of success. The Lexington Foundation, an Elkhart-based, not-for-profit organization, is continuing its mission of providing quality education and training to area entrepreneurs. The foundation is offering the NxLeveL Entrepreneurial Training Program, created by the Western Entrepreneurial Network unber a grant from the U S WEST Foundation. NxLeveL is now being taught in over 30 states throughout the United States. The program is designed to help potential and existing entrepreneurs learn the skills needed to create, develop and sustain successful business ventures. Durwin and Derek Hochstetler, owners of Superior Fencing, Inc., based in Nappanee, attended the first NxLeveL course, offered in the spring of 1998. Shortly after completing the course, the brothers decided to put their knowledge into practice, and began their fencing operation. “After taking the course, Superior Fencing went' on to have a banner year,” said Durwin. “We have met the goals we initially set for our operation, and are looking forward to another wonderful year serving the Michiana area.” Superipr Fencing, Inc. specializes in residential fencing, small commercial jobs and repairs. Types of fencing they install include chain link, vinyl chain link, wood, privacy, polyvinyl and decorative aluminum. “The course gave us some very valuable insights on how to avoid many of the pitfalls a new company may experience in the formative years,” said Durwin. “I would highly recommend the NxLeveL course to anyone considering starting a business, or currently in business for that matter, who is interest in learning better business practices.” For further information on upcoming courses, call Mike Lang, director of education and training, 219-522-0390, extension 228.
