RECORDS PURGED , The Elkhart County Special Education Cooperative, consisting of Baugo, Concord, Fairfield, Goshen, Middlebury and Wa-Nee Schools, is purging records on those students who have received special education services, with birth dates 1973-1974. Records will only be released by written requests received within 30 days from the date of this notice. Please include birth date and maiden name with request. ANNUAL REUNION The 24th Annual Reunion of Union Township Schools will take place August 8, Ip.m., at the former Union Center School, comer of CRI and CR4B, Nappanee. A potluck dinner will be served at noon. Participants will be honoring the graduating class of 1963. Union Township schools involved in the reunion include Swoveland, Union Center, Strycker, Good, Stump, Ulery, Culp, Miller, Brown and Union Center Consolidated. All former Union School affiliates are invited to attend. SPECIAL SESSION The Board of Trustees of the Nappanee Public Library will meet in special session to review the proposed 2000 budget Tuesday, August 10, 7p.m., in the library at 157 North Main Street. The public is invited to attend. COMMON COUNCIL The City of Nappanee Common Council will meet Monday, August 9, 7p.m., in the council chambers at the Nappanee Municipal Center, W. Lincoln St. Meetings are open to the public. PARK BOARD The Nappanee Board of Parks and Recreation will meet in regular session, Wednesday, August 18, 4:30p.m., in the Emergency Services Building, W. BMV makes plate renewal easier

Hoosier motorists may find renewing license plates easier , thanks to a pilot project by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Vehicle registration renewals that require only a sticker may now be completed at any license branch, regardless of the motorist’s county of residence. The program allows Hoosicrs who live or work close to a license branch in a neighboring county to avoid additional driving time. Commuters can visit a license branch close to work instead of racing to the license branch in their county before it closes. “Making services more accessible and convenient for motorists continues to be one of our top priorities. Festival offers variety of activities, entertainment

Over 100 entertainers, and performers have been assembled to fill over 100 scheduled sets on three stages while troupes of clowns, barbershop quartets, dancers and bluegrass bands and Dan Barth’s authentic medicine show will entertain at random throughout the festival grounds. All this will take place during the 37th annual Amish Acres Arts and Crafts Festival, Nappanee, Thursday through Sunday, August 12-15. Whether it be the old time banjo tunes of Lynn Frederick and the Knock Knock Hoosier String Band with his little jig or thee line dancers, doggers and square dancers the rhythms and steps won’t be that much different than, they werS 37 years ago on the! streets of Nappanee. That’s where the festival was first started in front of Pletcher Furniture Village as a clothes line art show. In the Entertainment Tent across the pond the popular LaMonte’s Grey Horse Band will showcase LaMonte Heflick. Guests will find strolling the grounds this year an assortment of lively entertainers including clown and musicians intermixed with the wonderful food, arts and crafts.

Catching up with Cavallinis

The well traveled and highly talented Cavallinis will perform in the Carson & Bames Circus, Sunday, August 8. Derksen Farm Sportsplex, CR7, Nappanee, will be the site for the big event, with performance times at 1:30p.m. and 4:30p.m.. The five-ring circus is being sponsored by the Nappanee Area Chamber of Commerce. Portions of the proceeds will benefit the Nappanee Boys' and Girls’ Club. The Cavallinis have a long standing history in the circus and will offer a everything from hulahoops to flying trapeze performances. "Practice, a lot of practice, this is what makes you good!" Roberto Cavallini’s straightforward statement matched his role as eldest son of nine and spokesperson for the Cavallini family. Drawing from his long line of generation circus performers, Roberto talked about his love for the circus, both in Peru and in America, two countries, two very different kinds of circuses, but he same love. Comparing the style of American circus to the Peruvian circus, Roberto said. “In Peru, the atmosphere is more like a theater and you stay in one place for longer periods of time. Not at all like Carson & Barnes Circus. We travel almost everyday and see many, many parts of the country."

Roberto went on to explain, “1890 was the first time a Cavallini performed in Peru. My great-grandfather started with animals, his grandfather performed acrobatics. With his father, it was clowning and a single trapeze. My father still has a small circus in Peru today." Now the fourth generation of Cavallinis was doing everything from hula-hoops to the flying trapeze. He was confident that his son Aaron, being a fifth generation Cavallini, would perform too. Fatherly pride lit up Roberto’s face as he spoke of his son. Bom in Hugo, Oklahoma, where Carson & Bames winter quarters are located, Aaron had performed for the first time at age five. “The first thing my son sees in circus. It’s a normal life for him and he’s not afraid." . Everybody does something, with several members of the family working together on the (lying trapeze, perch pole and the teeterboard acts. One sister is doing a hula hoop act for the first time this year and practices a lot. “All the time, we practice." “This is a good for the act” Roberto modestly admitted, “it’s easy for me to lift 700 pounds. Formerly working together on the perch pole act, now Julio and Traci manage the concessions. Julio still performs with is fam ; ty.
