Three face OWI charges
Three men are facing charges of operating while intoxicated following arrests made last week by members of the Nappanee Police Department. December 15, at approximately 10:33p.m., Officer Nik Havert pulled over a vehicle on SR 19 because the driver had been maneuvering the vehicle left of the center line. Ronald L. Rendall, 35, Maple Grove Street. Syracuse, was identified as the driver. The officer noticed an odor associated with alcoholic beverages. The suspect failed three field sobriety tests and registered a .21% blood alcohol count. Rendall was arrested and transported to the Elkhart County Detention Center where he was held on a $ 1.000 bond. December 17, Cpl. Doug Weaver observed a white jeep at Main and Market Street with an inadequate muffler. The vehicle was pulled over at the parking lot at Burger Dairy Store and the driver identified as Christopher Boyles, 23, Wawaka. The suspect smelled of alcohol

He was arrested for operating while intoxicated and transferred to the Elkhart County Security Center where he was held on a SI,OOO bond. December 20, 1:34a.m., the NPD received a call of a disabled vehicle in the 200 block of west Indiana Street. Upon arrival Ptl. Matt Tice found Mark A. Gonzalez, 21, 500 Short Street, Nappanee, asleep at the wheel with the vehicle in drive and his foot on the brake. After several attempts Tice finally succeeded in awaking the suspect who admitted he had been drinking. Gonzalez failed several field sobriety tests and agreed to take a chemical test at the police station. He failed that test with a BAC of .12%. Gonzalez was arrested and transported to the Elkhart County Security Center where he was held on a SI,OOO bond.
