Nappanee Mayor Larry Thompson announced plans for a memorial service to mark the 10th anniversary of the loss of Sergeant Brant “Butch” Nine. He was killed in the line of duty. November 3, 1988. The memorial service will be held Sunday. November 8. 2p.m., in front of the Nappanee Police Department. Part of the services will be used to dedicate the memorial erected in front of the police department in honor of the fallen officer. Citizens, friends and family are invited to take part in this special event.

Local FFA members earn honors in soil judging contest
The Elkhart County 4-H Soil Judging Contest was held October 6. southeast of Milford. The event Court news... James Gibb, charged with illegal possession of handgun, paid total fine and costs of $225.50. Dustin Jenkins, charged with passing in double yellow line area, paid total fine and costs of $85.50. Christopher Mann, charged with speeding 58mph in a 45mph zone, paid total fine and costs of $88.50. Vinh Van. charged with speeding 58mph in a ,45mph zone, paid total fine and costs of $88.50. Joshua Bitting, charged with unsafe start, paid total fine and costs of $85.50. Loren Byrer. charged with false and fictitious registration, paid total fine and costs of $80.50. was held in cooperation with the Kosciusko County Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Kosciusko County Cooperative Service. There -were 34 participants in the contest. Among them were Rob Bedward. Nappanee. Sarah Berger. Wakarusa. Tim Golder, Nappanee and Dustin Martin, Goshen. They make up the senior team from North Wood High School's FFA Chapter. The group earned third place in the soil judging competition. Mike Hertscl. Nappanee. Sarah Anderson. Elkhart. Justin Moyer, Nappanee and Darin Miller, Nappanee. earned sixth place as another senior team from North Wood's FFA Chapter. The local youths were coached by Phil Lindenman, North Wood FFA Advisor and Vo-Ag Instructor. Both teams are now among those eligible to compete in the area 4-H/FFA Soils contest, Friday. October 16. In order to judge the four sites that are 42-inches deep. 24 inches wide and 10 feet long, the students determine slope, landform. flood hazard, surface color, erosion, surface texture, subsoil texture, natural soil drainage, and limiting layer. Using this information, the students determine the land capability class and subclass, tillage/cover system, water management practices. chemical and fertility practices. plus forage and forest management practices. In addition, one of the sites is judged for homesitc development.
1 have been in law enforcement for 30 years, I believe that Michael Cosentino and I have developed a professional and personal friendship. When something needs to be done, Mike Cosentino gets it done. We have an excellent Prosecutors Office and being with the State Police previously, I have seen many Prosecutor’s Offices in the State of Indiana and believe that Elkhart County is on the top of the list as Prosecutor. ZORBA—The Round Barn Theatre at Amish Acres is currently offering performances of Zorba through November 1. The production can be seen Wednesday through Saturday nights, Bp.m., Saturday October 17, 2p.m„ and Sundays, October 18 and 25, 2p.m.. Zorba contains adult themes and content and has been rated PGI3 for Amish Acres audiences. The story revolves around Zorba, a roguish, jack-of-all trades with an irreverent and reckless approach to life, and Nikos, who has come to Greece to claim his inheritance, and abandoned mine on the island of Crete.
