Rain slows softball action
Rain claimed the games on Friday, June 12. The last time this happened was May 7. Monday’s play in the Red Division opened with a 7-0 forfeit for Accraform as yellow Creek Mennonite could not field enough players. Next the 7p.m. game saw HMFIC score five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. They needed three more runs as they dropped a 14-12 decision to Choretime/Brock. Brian Kistler and Brandon Zartoran each had four hits, and Jack “Burger King” Moore plated five RBl’s for Choretime/Brock while Russ Schutz and Brian Towne each had two hits for HMFIC. The Sharks scored 12 runs on 10 hits the first inning and cruised to a 21-11 win in five innings over PJ’s. Jeff and Steve Kern each had a homerun and two singles for the 4-1 Sharks, while Jim Powell and John Chadron had two hits each for PJ’s. The final game of the night went eight innings as US Male Tanning pushed across two runs in the eighth inning for an 11-9 victory over Nate Yoder Construction. Jason Boley’s miacfe five hits for US Male Tanning while Chad Bontrager accounted for three hits for the “carpenters.” The league leading Wa-Nee Merchants of the Blue Division hosted Quick Auto, Inc. in the first game Tuesday night, and gave the “automen” a quick trip to the junkyard by a 16-1 score. Luckily for Quick Auto that this game only srent four innings or it could have Been much worse. Geoff “Spartan” Clemens and Matt Martin hamfriered out three hits each in this short game. I Fred’s Flowers remained in secend place in the league by defeating US Male #2, 13-12. Fred’s lowers pushed three runs across he bottom of the seventh inning to win the game. • Burger Dairy erupted for 10 runs in the third inning and recorded an easy 18-4 win over Wakarusa Electronics in the Bp.m. jame. Jeff Gessinger blasted a pair pf homeruns while Earl Stutzman and “Famous Amos” Frye contributed three hits each for Burger Dairy who evened their record at 4-4. The Weekend Warriors edged die Pirates in the final game by a score of 15-11. SUMMER FUN—As summer settles in and the heat waves begin, crowds of preschoolers to adults visit the Nappanee Municipal pool. Pool hours begin at 12:30p.m., following three sessions of morning swim lessons, and continue until 7p.m.. The facility features a “kiddie" pool area for preschoolers, main area of swimming at various depths, and two diving boards. Reggie Urebo smacked one over the fence along with three singles and Scott Hayes accounted for a pair of homeruns for the 4-4 USA Auto-1 club. Dal-Mar Catering handily defeated Standard Glass at 7p.m. in a five inning game, 20-10. Jay Gingrich had four singles and Joey Borkholder had a pair of “dingers” and triple for the league leading Dal-Mar squad. Devin Houston knocked two out of the park along with Scott Newcomer’s two homeruns for Standard Glass. Ro-Sham-Bo scored four runs in the bottom of seventh inning to squeeze past Shamrock Fence 1211 in the “primetime” game. Jeff Douglas and Jay Shepherd led the way for the victors while Chris White knocked in three runs with a pair of singles and homerun for the “fencemen.” Brad “Sherm” Hartman and Tom Frey each had a four hit night for Orthopedic & Sports Medicine as they defeated Supersweet Feeds in the final game Wednesday night. Steve Neff paced Supersweet Feeds with four hits and Joe Bellman contributed three hits in the loosing effort. Thursday, the 6p.m. game featured a pair of Green Division tarns with Team Beam slipping past First Brethren 11, 6-5. Tony Meek had a single and double for team Beam while R.W. Hall and Mike Kupke each had a double for First Brethren. Gold Division play opened with First Source/Yoder Stutzman PH dealing First Brethren a 15-11 defeat behind the hitting of Lowell Bender and Manager Keith Yoder. Kent Walter, Lyndale Mullet and Roy Hershberger led the First Brethren I squad. Brodßeck Seeds found themselves behind Ranch Fiberglass 10-1 after the first inning, but battled back and pushed the undefeated Ranch Fiberglass team into eight innings before dropping an 18-17 decision. Greg Miller’s grandslam in the bottom of the seventh inning tied the score for Brodßeck Seeds, and Bill Dunlap went 5-5 for the “seedmen.” Chad Charlwood and Tim Stankovich had four hits each for the winners. Wakarusa ‘America at Ballpark’
The public is invited to attend a fun-filled evening at the Wakarusa Ballpark, Saturday, June 27. “America at the Ballpark” has a new look this year. Fun fair booths have been added and will be open from 2p.m-4p.m.. Booths will offer face painting, pie throwing at local “celebrities,” dunk tank (also featuring “celebrities”), basketball shoot for all ages including toddlers, ring toss, wiffle ball tourney, ball toss, duck pond, pony rides, balloon animals, Beanie Baby drawings, “light” rings, “America at the Ballpark” Tshirts, and “Cowadumpa” tickets to earn two SIOO cash prizes.
