The March Miracle Auction is the Center’s largest fundraiser through the year, and organizers have set a goal of $165,000. Last year’s auction raised over $135,000 for programs at the Center, which has received national recognition, and is used as a model for other centers across the country. On-site services include food, shelter, medical care, mental health counseling, drug and alcohol treatment, adult education, job training and placement, Montessori preschool, tutoring, budgeting, housing and comprehensive case management. The auction will be a combination of silent, oral and absentee bidding. The larger ticket items will be auctioned off orally during the second half of the evening. Those who can not attend may submit absentee bids by obtaining an auction program and a bidding form through The Center. It is expected that local personalities will serve as emcees. Boys’ & G/r/s’ Club set for September opening

That announcement came during the city council meeting, February 18, held inside the Emergency Medical Services meeting room. Middle school students earn music honors
Thirty-six students from North Wood Middle School participated in the February 7 solo and ensemble contest, held at Penn High School. Students performed piano solos, vocal solos and vocal ensembles. They showed not only their talent, but also their pride in the school. The following students earned superior ratings with their vocal solos; Tifini Scherer, Brandie Lengacher, Alisha Yoder, Jackie Cook, Jeremy Bechtel, Caleb Shaw, Liz Collins, Laura Gillam, Sylvia Sheets, Andy Shaw, Peter Hawn and Mark Bradley. In addition, the measure outlines the following uses for Community Economic Development Income Tax funds: $150,000 for the CR7 (Oakland Avenue) project; $70,000 for the South Madison Street water mains; and $30,000 Walnut Street improvements. A public hearing on the ordinance will be held March 16, 7p.m„ during the regular city council meeting. Members also accepted a monthly report from Emergency Medical Services Director, Jim Sumpter. The department handled a total of 47 calls during the month of January. T\venty-one of those calls required basic life support services while 19 required advanced life support. The council will meet again, Monday, March 2, 7p.m., at the Nappanee Municipal Building, 300 West Lincoln Street. Meetings are open to the public.
