Library offers dial-a-story The old cake-crumbs-under-the-skin routine is enough to give anybody wrinkles, especially a rhino! “How the Rhinoceros Got His Skin” is this week’s featured dial-a-story on the Nappanee Public Library Information Line. The free storytelling service is available on a 24-hour basis, and is just one of the options on the library’s information line, 7737920.

Local student attends college In England University of Evansville student Joanne Philhower, Nappanee, is now attending Harlaxton College, UE’s British campus in Grantham, England. She is the daughter of Elmer and Cynthia Philhower, Nappanee. Harlaxton College offers a wide range of courses to enable students to satisfy the majority of UE’s general education requirements. Many of the courses focus upon British and European studies, permitting a comparison of the American and English lifestyles. The University of Evansville is an independent, comprehensive university, affiliated with the United Methodist Church. It provides a strong liberal arts and sciences orientation and selected professional programs.

Recognize 4-H adult leaders Elkhart County 4-H volunteer leaders will be awarded pins and certificates at a special recognition banquet, Thursday, October 30, 6:15p.m., in the Greencroft Center, Goshen. The annual banquet is sponsored by the Elkhart County Farm Bureau, Inc., North Central Co-Op (formerly Elkhart County Co-Op) and the Elkhart County Farm Bureau Credit Union. This is the 51st year in which these organizations have sponsored the event. The entertainment for the banquet will be provided by Arlene Stoller, a musical motivator, of Bluffton. Special awards presentations by the Purdue Elkhart County Cooperative Extension Service, the Elkhart County 4-H Club Corporation, and Farm Bureau, will highlight the evening. 4-H adult leaders volunteer their time to help youth grades 3-12 to “Make the Best Better.” Rendering a tremendous community service, 4-H leaders hold regular club meetings for youth in their area, attend county leaders’ meetings, work with 4-Hers on an individual basis, help with fair preparation, and much more. The banquet serves as a county wide “thank you” to these community volunteers for their time and effort in helping to develop the leaders of tomorrow.
