Former city attorney dies
June 23, 1925-Sept. 28, 1997 Former Nappanee City Attorney, Maynard Shrock, 72, 606 Maple Lane, Nappanee, died Sunday evening, September 28, at Elkhart General Hospital, following a lengthy illness with cancer. He had been hospitalized for the past two weeks. Bom June 23, 1925, in Hutchinson, Kansas, he was the son of Jess Shrock, and moved to Indiana at age five years. He was a graduate of Middlebury High School and Valparaiso University. He was a WWII submarine Svc., with the Navy, serving in the South Pacific. Mr. Shrock married Mary E. (Whitehead) Deisch, March 5, 1977, and she survives. He was an attorney in Nappanee for over 40 years, member of Nappanee American Legion and VFW Posts, and many Civil War organizations throughout the county. Mr. Shrock was one of the founders of Nappanee Civic Theatre, and former Elkhart County Democrat Chairman and an active party member. Surviving with Mrs. Shrock are a daughter, Mrs. Chuck (Sue) McKinnis, Jr., Johnson City, Tennessee; a son, Phillip Shrock, Nappanee; two step-daughters:
NCT showcases favorite actors
Nappanee Civic Theatre continues its fall production, “The Sunshine Boys,” Friday and Saturday, October 3-4, 7:30p.m., and Sunday afternoon, October 5, 2:30, at West Park pavilion. Tickets will be available at the door for this Neil Simon comedy. Adult tickets are $6, seniors $5 and students $4. The story is that of Willie Miller and A1 Lewis, two ex-vaudevil-lians, who are asked to perform together in a TV special. One problem—these two haven’t spoken in 11 years. When finally convinced to rehearse together, they have several disagreements as to how the act used to be performed. The comedy begins, as they perform an old vaudeville routine. NCT is showcasing its regulars in this fall production—those who have appeared in numerous shows over the past few years, and those who have won awards for their performances in NCT productions. Cast members include Dave Kiefer, Larry Wenger, John Loucks, Andrea Duesler, Jeff Lentz, Jesse Pressler, Amy Wenger and Robert Boenne. Civic Theatre has also

announced plans to host its annual Haunted Farm, at the Nappanee Derksen Farm, CR7, with the scary presentation opening Friday and Saturday, October 10-11, and continuing through Saturday, November 1. Admission will be $3.50, with a special fun area for children ages 10-under(sl per person). The annual fundraiser includes the always-changed haunted house, the children’s fun area, and the showing of classic horror films in'the bam. Participants may park at the farm or take the free hayride shuttle operating between the farm and the parking lot at Martin’s Super Market. Group rates are available. Auditions for NCT’s Christmas show, “A Christmas Carol,” will be held November 3-4 j at the West Park pavilion. Performance dates are December 12-13-14. Scripts are available October 22, by calling NCT at 773-3412. There will also be two planning sessions for the 1998 season, with the first set for Friday, November 7, 7p.m„ at the pavilion. All interested persons are welcome.
