Celebration features annual baking contest

The annual Bonneyville Mill Baking Contest will take place Saturday, September 13, during the Bonneyville Celebration at the county park. Categories for this year’s contest include bread, sweet bread, quick bread, cake, cookies and mi sc. baked goods. The majority of flour used in the recipe must be from Bonneyville Mill. Flours available at the mill include whole wheat, rye, com meal and buckwheat. Each contestant will receive a coupon for a two-pound bag of flour that is redeemable at the mill. The grand prize winner will receive $l5O, with prizes in each Literacy volunteers needed September is a good time to start reading more with your children and grandchildren. It is also a good time to finally get your library card, and start checking out those “how-to” books, or great mysteries you’ve been wanting to read. You may also want to get involved with helping someone else learn how to read, or improve their reading skills. September is National Literacy Month, and the need for literacy skills has never been greater. The Nappanee Public Library Volunteers for Literacy will hold a meeting Saturday, September 6, 910:30a.m., in the Borkholder Meeting Room at the library. The meeting is open to anyone interested in being a volunteer tutor, or in helping with the program in other ways. 'Great Frame Up' for American Girls Come join the American Girls Club for their “Great Frame Up,” Tuesday, September 16. The North Wood High School Class of 1977 met Saturday, August 9, at Dal-Mar Catering Hall in Nappanee, for a 20year class reunion. Approximately 72 classmates were in attendance. Everyone enjoyed a fine meal, ending with a memorable yearbook album picture video and short program, attempting to introduce everyone while elaborating on a memorable high school experience. Goshen men charged with possession of marijuana

Two Goshen men were arrested by Nappanee police, Monday, August 25, and charged with possession of marijuana. The two are Terry Nelson Mackie, 58788 SR 15, Lot IA, Goshen, and Steven Davis Smith, 58788 SR 15, Lot 17, Goshen. Nappanee police were notified at approximately 6:46p.m., that two subjects had exited a vehicle and were headed into a cornfield south of Nappanee. It was believed that the two were picking marijuana. Nappanee Police Cpl. Phil Hahn II and the canine unit, Britt, went to the scene, where the dog was used to locate the subjects, approximately one-half mile off the road, in a wooded arpa, Tljey were picking marijuana, and were in possession of a plastic garbage bag containing the matter. Both men were taken into custody without incident, transported to the NPD and processed, after which they were transported to the Kosciusko County Security Center, with bond set at $5,000. PUBLIC INTOXICATION Early the morning of August 24, Nappanee police officers were dispatched to the Village Apartments at 1501 Brooks Drive, Nappanee, for a report of suspicious persons walking around the buildings. Patrolman Nicholas Havert arrived at the scene, and saw a young man walking along the parked vehicles. While speaking with officers, the subject, Eric L. Shrock, 18, 63800 CRII, Goshen, was discovered to be intoxicated.

It was also revealed that he was a minor, and he was arrested and charged with public intoxication and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. He was transported to the Elkhart County Detention Facility, on a $750 bond. test and a portable breath test were given to the driver at the scene, and he did poorly in both. The driver, Gerardo Olivera Solia, 27, 403 Northside Manor, Nappanee, was then transported to the Nappanee Police Department, where he was given a breathalyzer test. He tested .11% BAC, and was then advised that he was under arrest for driving while intoxicated, exceeding the posted speed limit and for not having an operator’s license. After processing, he was transported to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, and held on a SI,OOO bond, pending his court hearing, August 27, in Nappanee City Court. lein j* , loin.
