Replacements are a must for the Lions

BREMEN After consecutive trips to the Hoosier Dome in 1994 and 1995, the Bremen Lions fell short of such overwhelming success in 1996. Still, a 6-4 mark (5-2 in the NSC) is one that many teams would gladly embrace.

However, if the Lions are to recapture their past glory, replacements are going to have to be found for several graduated seniors. The biggest hole for the Lions and coach Marty Huber was left by the departure of Chad

Leeper. The Bremen star was the area’s leading rusher and top scorer last season. Leeper racked up 1407 yards on the ground while scoring 24 touchdowns. Furthermore, Leeper’s presence will be missed defensively where he led the Lions in tackles as a linebacker. “The younger players are really going to have to come through for us this year,” Huber commented. Two other significant statistical losses for Bremen are Tim Gaines and Ryan Hammons. Gaines, a wide receiver, was the leading Lions [receiver in a season where he pulled down 19 passes for 349 yards and [three touchdowns. Hammons was the area’s number two return man

with 405 yards on 23 returns and also intercepted three passes as a defensive back. One more skilled position loss is wide receiver/defensive back See Lions, Page 7
