Rotary report... Don Guckenberger presented the program at last week’s meeting of the Nappanee Rotary Club, talking to members about various trivia information. Visiting Rotarians were George Sommer, of the Sarasota Bay Club; Kim Webb, Syracuse, and Carlee Hakes, Warsaw. Also visiting were C.J. and Megan Cunningham, with their mother, Janice, and Deb Teal, with her husband, Paul. Nappanee Rotary will sponsor the annual Nite Golf Outing, August 2. This is a profit-making activity, and is open to the public. Nappanee Rotary meets each Wednesday noon, at Ron’s Bakery and Restaurant. Visitors are welcome. Kiwanibull... Nappanee Noon Kiwanis Club meets each Monday, at Dal Mar Banquet Hall, 159 E. Lincoln St. The gourmet chef from Amish Acres presented Monday’s program, with the June 23 program to be provided by The Learning Center. Bill Dawson was the featured speaker for the recent Round Up. Several special guests and prospective members were in attendance, as well as interclubs from Goshen and Milford. Kiwanians of the Month of June are Bill Best, Kris Best, Matt Bixel, Jean Bolyard and Russ Bolyard, for their reviewing 100 scholarship applications. Early Bird Chirp... Nappanee Early Bird Kiwanis met Wednesday, June 11, at Ron’s Bakery & Restaurant. Dave Berger won the 50/50 raffle, and guests included Bill Little, as well as an interclub from Lakeland. The program chairman was Barb Meister, who presented speakers Amy Smith and Jackie Stiver, with Victim Assistance Services of Elkhart County. This is a social service agency designed to assist and support victims of crime. They have been in Elkhart County for 15 years, working with victims from the time of the crime through the prosecution and sentencing of the defendant. Members went to the Cove in South Bend on Father’s Day, for a Silver Hawks bisebJtll game. Those in attendance enjoyed a good game and great weather. Nappanee II Early Bird Kiwanis meets at 6:30a.m. each Wednesday, at Ron’s. Visitors are welcome. For further information, call Ron Meister, 773-2179. Local students earn honors Nikki Laßae Stump, Nappanee, and Marla C. Schrock, Wakarusa, both graduates of North Wood High School, have been named to the Dean’s List for the 1997 Spring Term at Huntington College, Huntington. Dean’s List honors are awarded to full-time students carrying a load of 12 or more hours, who earn a semester grade point average of at least 3.50. Stump is working toward a BS degree with a major in Recreation Management, while -Schrock is working toward a BS in science with a major in biology. Huntington College was founded in 1897 by the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. Charged with battery
At about 1:50a.m. the morning of Friday, June 13, the Nappanee Police Department received a 911 call to #SO M-Dee Acres in reference to a domestic dispute. Patrolmen Terry Chanley, Nick Havert and John Elliott, along with Cpl. Phil Hahn, responded to the call. Upon investigation, the officers discovered that a female subject at the scene had been battered. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Joseph E. Hendrix of #SO M-Dee Acres, was then charged with battery, and was transported to the

Randy Reynolds, Jr., charged with a seatbelt violation, paid total fine and costs of $25. Henry Garcia, charged with operating a vehicle without proof of financial responsibility, paid total fine and costs of $73.50. Robert Boenne, charged with speeding 49mph in a 30mph zone,, paid total fine and costs of $82.50. Nellie Jones, charged with disregarding a stop sign, paid total fine and costs of $68.50. Ann Bender, charged with speeding 51mph in a 35mph zone, paid total fine and costs of $79.50. Melvin Dean, Jr., charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, paid total fine and costs of $373.50. Manuel Torres, charged with operator never licensed, paid total fine and costs of $223.50.
Bethel students honored for grades A total of 220 students have been named to the Dean’s List for the 1997 spring semester, at Bethel College, Mishawaka, according to Dr. Michael Holtgren, vice-presi-dent for academic services. Eligibility for the dean’s list requires a 3.50 GPA, with 12 or more semester hours. Among those honored were Andrea Donegan, Kimberly Engbrecht, Susan Hatch, Ashli Hepler, Christin Lehman, Brandi Miller, Tamberli Persing and Kristin Rohrer, all of Nappanee, and Tonya Clem (4.0), Sara Freed and Loraine Wisler (4.0), Wakarusa.

Elkhart County Security Center to be held on a SI,OOO bond. DISORDERLY CONDUCT At 7p.m. Saturday, June 14, Nappanee Police Cpl. Phil Hahn, Ptl. Doug Weaver, and Ptl. Joe Kimpel responded to a call at 801 S. Elm St., where a subject was refusing to leave the premises. Upon arrival, the officers found 23-year-old Patricia J. Losee, 801 S. Elm St., Nappanee, causing a disturbance. She was asked several times by the officers to quietly leave the residence, as she was not wanted there. Ms. Losee refused to quiet down, and continued to use vulgar language and obnoxious behavior. She was taken into custody, and continued to fight as officers placed her in handcuffs. Losee was then transported to the Nappanee Police Dept, for initial processing on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement, followed by transportation to the Elkhart County Security Center. She was to be held there on a $1,500 bond pending a court date of Wednesday, June 18 in the Nappanee City Cor"

Crafters needed for 4-H fair demonstrations Additional crafters are needed for this years Home and Family Arts Craft Potpourri at the Elkhart County 4-H Fair, according to the building director, Lois Byler. The Craft Potpourri is scheduled for Friday, July 18, through Saturday, July 26, 3-sp.m. and 6Bp.m. Crafters are encouraged to participate at both times. The craft potpourri is a place for crafters to show fair participants how to do various crafts, heritage skills and needlework.
