North Wood High School . Principle Louis Bonacorsi was inducted ipto the Indiana - Wrestling Hall of Fame, at a special dinner held Sunday in Indianapolis. ? Bonacorsi,.who was nominated for the honor by present NWHS Athletic Director Todd Sheets, was one of five coaches to be honored at the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association 26th team and individual championship recognition banquet. Also inducted were four wrestlers and three contributors to the wrestling j program in Indiana. ? In his letter of recommendation, •Sheets stated that “Bonacorsi has been an administrator at North Wood High School for 14 years, the past 12 as principal. Since he started coaching in 1973, he has always maintained a keen interest in wrestling.” The letter went on to cite Bonacorsi for taking the reigns of a “struggling North Wood program in 1973, and with determination, enthusiasm and a hunger for knowledge in the sport, turned the NW program around in one year.” The Panther program went from a won/loss record of 4-8 in 1973 to 9-1 in 1974, when the team won two tournaments and the Northern Lakes Conference runner-up spot, as well as turning out two sectional champions. North Wood also won championships in 1974-1979 and'were regional champs in 1978, with Bonacorsi at the helm. The Panthers also won 16 tournaments, had two semi-state champs and 10 wrestlers compete in the state finals. Bonacorsi’s overall dual meet record was 86-49-3, and he was named conference coach of the year twice during his coaching career. * Bonacorsi resigned the post in 1984, to become vice-principal at .North Wood, and, in 1985, accepted the principal’s post. He has stayed involved with the sport by directing several super dual meets, and was tournament director for , the IHSAA NorthWopd Sectional. Sheets closed his letter by stating, “I believe Mr. Bonacorsi is an excellent representative of the : sport of wrestling in the state of '.lndiana. submit his name to you for induction into the Indiana Wrestling Hall of Fame.” Council approves ordinances, Two ordinances establishing non-reverting funds were passed on second reading, in a brief Nappanee Common Council meeting, held Tuesday evening, February 18. The first sets a fund for Capital Outlays in the park department’s budget for the golf course, and the second will handle Day Camp Expenses for the park department’s “Camp Explore” summer program. Clerk-Treasurer Kim Ingle’s financial report for January was accepted, and claims against the city, amounting to $79,895.72, were approved for payment. Fblice Chief Ray Carich reported that the department’s-canine, Brit, was used in the recent local drug bust (see front page story in February 19 Advance-News), as well as in a more recent raid in Goshen, “so he is doing a good job.” Early Bird Chirp... Nappanee Early Bird Kiwanis met Wednesday, February 19, with local members joined by an interclub from Lakeland. Past Lt. Gov. Bob Gephart presented Kiwanian Barb Dawson with the Distinguished Secretary Award for 1995-1996, and the Distinguished President Award was presented to Ron Bedward. The program chairman was Rodney Burnham, who shared the history of Boy Scouts with the group. Leon Farmwald is program chairman next week. Members extended a special welcome to newest member, Tracy Stutzman. Upcoming events include the Land ‘O Lakes Governor’s visit, March 1, in Warsaw, and the Early Bird Kiwanifc Third Annual Auction, March 15, at West Side Park pavilion. Nappanee II Early Bird Kiwanis meets each Wednesday, at Ron’s Bakery and Restaurant.

The Nappanee Public Library has a meeting room which is available for use by civic, community, Music students earn state honors in Indy The North Wood High School Band Department participated at ISSMA State Solo and Ensemble Contest held Saturday, February 22, at Indianapolis. The following students received a second division rating for instrumental solos: Katie Carlton, Suzame Moudy and Missy Stull. A clarinet choir composed of Jenn Mast, Mindy Liechty, Missy Stull, Suzame Moudy, Heather Cline, Melissa Marsh, Amy Hughes,- Pam Hyde and Jared Hamsher also received a second division rating. Eric Oglesbee and Matthdw Henkler earned a first dfviSion rating for their instrumental solos. Matt got a perfect score on his evaluation sheet. Congratulations!

Freshmen honored by Tri Kappa Sorority
The Zeta Nu Chapter of Tri Kappa Sorority and North Wood High School will sponsor the annual Honor Roll Recognition Dinner for freshmen who have achieved a 3.2 or higher grade point index in their fall semester course work. The dinner will be held Thursday, March 6, 6:30p.m., in the high school cafeteria. The sorority, in keeping with its tradition of promoting charity, culture and education, wishes to make this event an opportunity for celebration, pride and challenge for these academically-distinguished young people/ Each student’s parents, teachers and coaches will also be invited to attend. The Nappanee Noon Kiwanis Club meets each Monday, at Dal Mar Banquet Hall, 159 E. Lincoln St. Jim Webster, NWHS teacher and facility advisor to the NW SADD Club, presented last week’s program. North Wood has a SADD Club involvement of 203 students. More than $48,400 has been collected (through December 1996) through the use of collection canisters in Kiwanis’ fight to eliminate IDD.
