A pop quiz will be given to those visiting for less than an hour, and a multiple choice test for those who stay longer. Look for the blue and white Nappanee Bulldog, the local words to "On Wisconsin,” pennants of rival schools, and more. In The School Belfry, “discount” is considered a dirty word, and those who insist on using it will have their mouths washed out with soap. Displays arc integrated to show

all merchandise in its best light. Antiques, hand-made crafts and signature gift items will often be combined in unique vignettes within the schoolroom format of the shop. There will be a comer for the dunce, complete with cap, apples—in every imaginative way—for the teacher, an honor roll of the best antiques and crafts on display, and a science fair that never ends. Inquisitive visitors will find the biology room filled with duck decoys and bug boxes; botany class will bloom with flowers, from dried to freeze-dried to pressed; quilts and samplers will be on display in the home-ec room, along with weaving from the loom. , There is a library with books covering nearly every subject, both interesting and uninteresting, easy and hard—just like all school libraries, and a study hall where one does almost anything rather than study —and gets away with it. The history of the one-room school in America, now obsolete except for those used by Old Order Amish, will be celebrated through literature, poetry and photographs. Visitors will have the opportunity to add their favorite teachers to the belfry's honor roll, and nominate a teacher of the year during their visit. School memorabilia on loan from the community and Nappanee Public Library will be on display throughout the shop. Wilma George and Ruth Miller will be honorary principals during grand opening ceremonies, May 1. Mrs. George, 96, taught public school for over 35 years before retiring to become a tour guide at Amish Acres 25 years ago. Mrs. Miller, 86, became the first female school bus driver in the state of Indiana, and drove for over 35 years before retiring to become a quilter at Amish Acres 25 years ago.
