McCloskey announces candidacy
Elkhart'County Commissioner District 3 candidate Marty McCloskey recently announced the members of his campaign committees. Brenda Blackburn, charged with public intoxication, paid total fine and costs of $273.50. Kristen Dial, charged with speeding 64mph in a 45mph zone, paid total fine and costs of $82.50. Brenda Frey, charged with speeding 60mph in a 40mph zone, paid total fine and costs of $83.50. Michael Nate, Jr., charged with speeding 60mph in a 40mph zone, paid total fine and costs of $83.50. Raul Ortega, charged with speeding 55mph in a 40 mph zone, paid total fine and costs of $78.50. Ramon A. Ramos, charged with speeding 50mph in a 30mph zone, paid total fine and costs of $83.50. Ricardo Saldivar, charged with operating a vehicle without proof of financial responsibility and false and fictitious registration, paid total fine and costs of $278.50.. John Turner, charged with speeding 66mph in a 45mph zone, paid total fine and costs of $84.50. Jeffery Kendrix, charged with public intoxication, ' disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, paid total fine and costs of $373.50. Dennis W. Hochstetler, charged with speeding 64mph in a 45mph zone, paid total fine and costs-of $82.50. Teresa Mendoza, charged with driving while license suspended, paid total fine and costs of $223.50.

McCloskey is Jim Woodsmall, while George Bemis will serve as campaign manager. Tom Wilson and Bobbi Wilson have been named treasurer and finance chairman, respectively, and the campaign’s fund-raising chairman is Thais Staub. Mike Kimes will handle communications, and Bob Ivers distribution for the organization. Advisory committee members include Carol McDowell, Jerry Cook, Harold Wyland, Deb Barrett, Branden Beachy, Rsnee James and Norman Miller. McCloskey, who describes himself as a conservative Republican, announced in January his candidacy for the seat, appearing for a press conference at US2O and SR 15, site of a proposed asphalt plant. A sergeant with the Elkhart Police Department, McCloskey is a precinct committeeman and was a delegate to the Indiana Republican State Convention in 1994. He is a graduate of Jimtown High School and Indiana University, and served five years in the U.S. Air Force. He is a member of First Baptist Church in Elkhart, and is one of the founding members of the Elkhart County Young Republicans. He is also a member of M.A.D.D., Morning Optimist Club, Pachyderm Club, Elkhart Christian Businessman Association and the Law Enforcement Alliance of America. , McCloskey reports that he stands for four-square efficiency in government. to continually search for more efficient means to deliver county services. This is an ongoing process which will take on new importance as changes are made at the federal level. Elkhart County needs to plan for these changes, not merely react to them.” Marty believes that county growth should be planned in an orderly manner, with input from the people who are most affected by governmental uction. The story changes each Monday, to give a maximum number of children the chance to hear a tale before it changes. Ferret Expo set at county fairgrounds The Midwest Ferret Expo ‘96, a NAFA-sanctioncd three-ring championship ferret show, will be held at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds, Saturday, April lls The expo will include evenjs for popularity voting, as well as fun contests like pipe race, yawning, paper bag escapes and best trick. Admission is $3 per person, with kids under 12 admitted free. Admission receipts will be donated to Kansas State University, for Ferret Rabies Research. All exhibitors will need to show proof of vaccinations, and pre-reg-ister by March 15. The show is presented by Far Fetched Ferrets and Elkhart Ferret Club.
