SCIENCE PROGRAM—Kevin Stuart, of Michigan, visited Woodview Elementary School Wednesday, November 29, to present a program based on "Mr. Wizard," the television show. The show, titled "Mr. Wizard's Science in the Home, demonstrated ways that items found around the home can be used to explore the science in everyday living. Student volunteers used learning skills such as measuring, observing, predicting and analyzing to investigate challenges posed during the show. Madlin Culp, representing the Nappanee American Legion Auxiliary, called on Nappanee Poetry displayed at public library A collection of poems by members of the Nappanee Poetry Club will be on display at the Nappanee Public Library December 4-10. The poems are all based on one theme, inspired by a cockatiel named Poco, the library’s live-in mascot. Poco lives in his cage in the section at the library, a few feet away from the room where the poetry club was holding one of its regular monthly meetings. , Part of the meeting’s schedule includes writing poems inspired by the moment; things such as the weather, or the mood of the evening. The poems are then read aloud. On this particular occasion, the group members were surprised to find that they had all written about Poco. “It seems we’re really all in tune tonight,” Marjorie Moneyheffer commented, laughing. / As the poets discussed the event, they realized that Poco had remained quiet as th€y were talking about poetry reading various works/alouck but that he had begun to talk and sing as they concentrated pn thpir writing. “It seemVinat we have a new member in our group,” Margaret England, another of the poets, said. The results of this inspirational event, accompanied by crafts done by Susie Russell, the poetry club’s organizer, can be seen in the large glass display case on the library’s main floor. Charged with possession Wednesday, November 11, while serving as court officer at the Nappanee City Court, Sgt. Michael Anglin discovered a small quantity of marijuana, in a small plastic container, on the person of Brent L. Cavender, 19, 556 S. Locke, Nappanee. Cavender, who was in court on an unrelated charge, was taken into custody and charged with possession of marijuana, He was then taken to the Elkhart County Security Center on a SI,OOO bond, and is scheduled to appear in the Nappanee City Court Wednesday, December 6
