Years ago... 100 YEARS AGO OCTOBER 2, 1895 The Nappanee Furniture Co. is increasing its factory capacity to make more room in the main building, and allow Supt. Mutschler and Foreman Woodbury to rearrange the machinery more to the convenience of the workmen. The trade of the institution was never more promising and never better than at the present, which means considerable toward the general prosperity of local affairs. Why not have 4 a skating rink in Nappanee this winter? The prospect for any better means of amusement, in which ladies and gentlemen both can indulge themselves in healthful enjoyment, seems to be remote. A good ice rink properly managed would attract, at least, a hundred skaters this winter. With the band it could draw very large crowds. Several of the manufacturers and business men are talking up the scheme of a telephone exchange for their convenience. Several having already decided on putting in private phones, the scheme to make the service more useful by putting in an automatic exchange and have a dozen or so more subscribers interested;’ bobbed up for consideration. A meeting has been had but nothing definite has developed. 75 YEARS AGO OCTOBER 7, 1920 A bad accident occurred at noon on Tuesday when I. W. Dunham, proprietor of the Rexall pharmacy, was run down by the Tillman automobile and his right limb broken between the hip and knee. Mr. Dunham was riding his bicycle while returning from dinner, as was his custom, and was in front of A. H. Kaufman's store when the accident occurred. Mrs. Tillman was turning the comer around the dummy policeman on the public square. She made a wide turn and struck the rear wheels of a parked Ford just before striking Mr. Dunham.
