SALE BEGINS—The Going Out of Business Sale began this week at Pletcher Furniture Store, with special invitation shoppers arriving earlier in the week, and the general , public welcome beginning September 1. The store, which has offered personalized service and attention, free deliveries, and a pledge to offer only the finest home furnishings since 1933, closed its doors last week. The sale is expected to clear out remaining furniture within 90 days. Festival offers contests

Those who enjoy competition will want to plan to be a part of the upcoming Nappanee Apple Festival contests, with a variety offered during the three-day event, September 22-24. There will be a co-ed softball tournament, 5k run and 10k race, baking contest, horseshoe tournament, pedal pull, cross cut saw and pie eating contests. In addition, bowlers will want to participate in the Gold Crown Lanes doubles tournament, and owners of garden tractors can compete in the annual Indiana Garden Tractor Pull on Sunday. One of the festival’s final events will be the popular bed race, with teams invited to create their entries and try their luck. In addition to these contests, the festival will offer prizes for parade Kiwanibull... The Nappanee Kiwanis Club has awarded Legion of Honor pins to LaVern Pletcher 45 years, Bob Callander 45 years, Ralph Greene 40 yetffs, Vance Frederick 40 years, Jerry Lentz 35 years and Paul Dieterlen 35 years. The club has also awarded Perfect Attendance pins to Russ Bolyard 47 years, Ralph Greene 38 years, Jerry Lentz 35 years, Gene England 14 years, Jon Stepp 7 years, Larry Wagner 6 years, Bonnie Hochstetler 6 years, Don Locke 4 years, Bobbie Wilson 4 years, Matt Bixel 3 years, Randy Spitaels 1 year and Trilba Speicher 1 year. Congratulations to all these members. The sign-up for the Apple Festival is going around —be sure to sign up, if you haven’t already. Due to Labor Day, the club will meet Tiiesday, Sept. 5.

New owners plan car wash changes

Over the next year, expect to see many new changes at the car wash located at 351 E. Market Street. Larry Stewart, owner of Northern Pride’s Car Wash World, has purchased the business from former owner Dave Gildersleeve. Matthew Jerlecki is the new general manager. Rotary report... State Representative Richard Mangus was the speaker at the Nappanee Rotary Club meeting Wednesday, August 23. He was introduced by program chairman Rebecca Lehman. Guests included visiting Rotarians Jay Barnhill and Craig Buch, Goshen, and Jeanie Gardner, Syracuse. Tara Lengacher’s guests were her husband, Jody, and father, Larry Thompson. Options on this wash will include undercarriage wash, an automatic dryer, clear coat conditioner, and a clear coat protectant, as well as the “spot-free” final rinse. The new touchless system is expected to be open by June 1. 1996.
