Wakarusa Elementary sets opening activities
Final preparations are being made at Wakarusa Elementary School for the start of the 1995-96 school year. The first day for students will be Tuesday, August 22. This will be a full day of classes for students in grades 1-6, and the transition class. Kindergarten students will not report until Monday, August 28. Kindergarten parents will receive information by mail, regarding a conference time with their respective kindergarten teacher. “Parents are encouraged to attend these conferences, to receive information about time schedules, fees, dates, programs and other information. Buses will arrive at Ba.m. each day, with classes beginning at 8:10a.m. Dismissal time will be 2:45p.m., with bused students being shuttled to the middle school for pick up at 3p.m. All Wa-Nee elementary schools will have an early registration again this year. Registration will be held in the cafeteria, Tuesday, August 15, from 9a.m.-6p.m. (only one day). Parents will also fill out enrollment and health information on each child. Textbook rental and material lists will also be given to parents, and they may pay their child’s book fees at this time. The school bookstore will be open, for parents to purchase school supplies. Book rental fees for students'are as follows: kindergarten $34, transition and first grade $72, second and third grades s7l, fourth grade S7O, fifth grade $69, and sixth grade S6B. Fees not paid at early registration should be paid Wednesday, September 6. Hot lunches will be served, as usual. Student lunches will cost $1.25 per day, or $6 per week. Again this year, only five lunches will be sold. Students purchasing less than five days will pay for lunches at the cash register 5?

Parents not attending early registration may stop at the school office any time after the week, of August 15, from Ba.m.-3:30p.m., to register their child. All parents who are new to the community are encouraged to register their children as soon as possible. The school office is located at 400 N. Washington St., Wakarusa. The telephone number is 8622000. Office hours are Ba.m.3:30p.m. Monday through Friday. Parents with questions are encouraged to call the school office. Rotary report... The Nappanee Rotary Club meets each Wednesday noon, at Ron’s Bakery and Restaurant. Visitors are welcome. At last week’s meeting, Everett Colvin, Rotary District Governor, was the speaker, while in Nappanee for his annual club visit. He is from Plymouth, and covers District 6540, which is the northern third of the state. Guests included his wife, Jayne; Janyce Guckenberger, with her husband Don, and visiting Rotarian Gary Decker, from Mexico, Missouri. Rotarians hosted their annual Meteor Shower Golf Outing on Saturday evening, and also served at a food booth during the Amish Acres Arts & Crafts Festival.
