Summer troupe offers play
Pyramid Productions will offer a final public performance of the original musical, “Friends: We Touch the World,” at North Wood High School’s auditorium, Thursday, August 10, 7:30p.m. From the jazzy opening of “Build a Rainbow" to the powerful title song, “Touch the World,” and the closing theme song, “You Can Do Anything,” this summer’s show has the fun of novelty songs, the zaniness of the cadence, and the tenderness of emotional tunes. Full of imagination and highlevel energy, the show is a collection of music and choreography to delight all ages—children through senior citizens. Admission is $3 at the door. Operating under the motto, “Making a difference is the highest form of art,” the company is committed to sharing original musical theatre with those otherwise unable to experience its magic. Music for “Friends: We Touch the World” was written by Wm Perry Morgan, Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of New York City, with contributions by Brandon Crouch. Words and lyrics were written by Sherry Hoover and Wm Perry Morgan, with contributions by Brandon Crouch. Company members for 1995 are Marcus Breese, Brandon Crouch, Adam Faulkner, Carol Fivecoate, Gretchen Hess, Zeb Metzler, Stephen Phillips, Jason Sunday, and Jodi Taylor. Also, back for a second year are the Junior Pyramids, a cast of 7-14-year-old performers that includes Kristina Berger, Ashley Boling, John Carroll, Jennifer Collins, Megan Cunningham, Sarah Hoff, Jaclyn Jamison, David Lint, Erica Lint, Andrew Moore, Margaret Moore, and Cassie Steury-Zentz. Spotlight Riley Hospital at August 15 session
Maryanne Underwood, a public relations coordinator for the Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, will be the featured speaker at an open meeting, Tuesday, August 15, 7p.m., at the new Dal-Mar building, 159 E. Lincoln St„ Nappanee. The public is encouraged to attend. Ms. Underwood will talk about the hospital, and show a short video illustrating how the hospital cares for injured children, and serves many youngsters with special needs. She will also talk about the recently-dedicated KiwanisRiley Trauma Life Center, the first and only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in Indiana. Many youngsters from the Nappanee area have used the Riley Hospital facilities. The hospital is well-known for its care of critically-ill or injured children in the state of Indiana. From premature babies with birth defects, to children with cancer, to major accident victims, the hospital specializes in children’s needs. A representative from the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis will also give a short presentation, telling about the “home away from home,” a temporary lodging facility for families of seriously-ill children hospitalized at Riley. The company has just returned from a 15-day, seven-state tour that included Riley Children’s Hospital and Lifelines Rehabilitation Hospital (Indianapolis), St. Jude's Hospital (Memphis), St. Mary’s and SloanKettering (New York City), National Children’s Hospital (Washington, D.C.) and two days with children in Appalachia. Teens invited to join Junior Friends group Looking for a place to share creative ideas and have fun too? All teens are invited to join the Junior Friends of the Nappanee Public Library, Monday, August 14, at 6:30p.m. The Junior Friends will meet under the leadership of Jay Heckaman. The teens will assist the Friends organization in promoting the library and conducting fundraising activities. They will also share ideas on selecting materials* and planning programs of special interest to teens.
