Girls see action in summer softball games
Popcorn Construction defeated Pizza Hut, 14-6. in a youth girls’ softball contest played June 22. Jessi Burns contributed four hits, along with three hits each from Ashlie Nine. Brittney McPheeters and Lizzie Burns, to pace the winners. Michelle Mast. Starli Brown, Alicia Best, Heather Jackson. Christina Circle and Aubrie Kauffman had two hits each for Weidenhaft to study, play at Florida school Heather Weidenhaft. a 1995 North Wood High School graduate, has announced that she will attend Atlantic University. Boca Raton, to study marine biology, and play volleyball, on an athletic scholarship and other financial aid which covers about 50 % of her tuition. The school is an NCAA Division 1 institution which enrolls approximately 17.500 students. She will work with Jody Brown, a first-year head coach in Florida Atlantic’s volleyball program. Weidenhaft was a two-year starter for the Panther volleyball and. as a senior, was named most valuable player, among the top hitters and blockers. She was also named to the Ail-Northern Lakes Conference volleyball team twice. In addition, she was a key member of the Panther basketball teams which won three sectional and two regional titles during her career. She closed with a total of 682 points.

Pizza Hut. Subway was defeated by van Camps, 8-6, in the second game of the evening. Laura Tarman's triple drove in three RBI, and Sarah Koziel slapped a double for van Camps. Lindsay Young and Brittany Martz each had a double and two RBI for Subway. The early game on June 29 found Popcorn scoring five runs in the tirst inning, and going on to top van Camps 8-4. Sarah Gibson, Sarah Shively. Lizzie Bums, Jessie Burns. Kim Atkinson and Jessi Slabaugh led Popcorn’s in hitting, while Sarah Koziel w'as the leading hitter for van Camps. In the nightcap. Pizza Hut held off Subway, winning 10-9. Michelle Mast’s single and triple led Pizza Hut, while Subway received two hits each from Tiffany Shere. Tonya Stankovich, Betsy Saurer. Lady Swingers list winners The Lady Swingers golf league has announced winners from play of June 26-27, at McCormick Creek Golf Course, Nappanee. f Play of the Day was "Mystery Partners," using full handicap. Pat Parks and Sandy Coy won with a 69 total. Low gross was won by Evelyn Salyer. 51; low net, Jeannie Lape, 37, and low putts, tie at 16 by Mary Phillips and Marian Yoder.

RECEIVES LETTER-Brittany Watkins, daughter of Mike Watkins, Nappanee, and granddaughter of Max and Eleanor Watkins, Bourbon, holds a letter she received from Jennifer Keister, who lives six miles south of Albion. Jennifer and her family found Brittany's balloon while her father was farming. All that was left of the balloon was the string and a card, launched by Brittany about one year ago, during Children's Day services at Hepton Union Church, Nappanee.
