Frosh handle Warsaw

The North Wood freshman football team handled Warsaw 12-2 last week at Andrews Field. The Panther defense played a superb game, limiting Warsaw’s offense throughout the contest. The first quarter saw both teams exchange punts, and the quarter ended 0-0. In the second period, the special teams got North Wood on the board. Donny Blay'k returned a Tiger punt 87 yards for a touchdown. The point after failed, but North Wood led 6-0 at halftime. The third quarter found NorthWood mount several good drives, but the Panthers could not add to their lead. In the final period of play, with the Panther offense deep in its own territory, Warsaw’s defense trapped Kim Chamberlin in the end zone for a safety, and narrowed the lead to 6-2. Late in the quarter the Panthers mounted a drive was climaxed by a score. With fourth and eight to pay dirt, Chamberlin hooked up with Tim Rodgerson for the score and a 12-2 victory. Chamberlin led the offense with 22 yards in six carries, followed by Doug Brown with seven in three, Nick Nunemaker three in nine, and

pionship, and the fourth straight year in which they have earned at least a share of the conference title. Congratulations! Coach Rich Dodson stated following Friday’s end-of-season win, “It’s quite a feat for these young men. To put back-to-back unbeaten seasons together says a lot for them. Our seniors have only lost one regular-season football game. I think the first unbeaten one was tougher because it seemed like it would never get here. We waited 20 years for an unbeaten season, and now we have two in a row.” Dodson also talked about the scholarship abilities of his team. “I was doing work for the academic football awards the other<day, and realized that Sam Reschly is currently ranked at the top of the senior class, while Andy Roeder, Jake Sellon and Charlie Zercher are in the top 10.” Congratulations! The Panthers played without the services of Roeder on Friday night. The senior QB suffered a knee injury during the first half of the Warsaw game, and was unable to play Friday. He may also be out for North Wood’s opening playoff game, this Friday night, at Culver High School. However, Wes Dodson stepped

Jacob Yoder caught a pass for 37 yards, and Tim Rodgerson and Nick Nunemaker each added a single catch, for eight and six yards respectively. The entire Panther defense was credited for a super game. in and led the team admirably, tossing a 44-yard touchdown strike as well as a 14-yard score and kicking six extra points, in addition to working the outside option pitches to perfection. Congratulations! North Wood scored the lone first-quarter touchdown off Nate Andrews’ four-yard scamper to pay dirt, and led 7-0 at the first stop. However, a 20-point output in the second period of play put the hosts in a hole they would never dig their way out of—with Andy Blosser scoring on the 44-yard pass play, Aaron Cook returning a pass interception 32 yards to pay dirt, and Matt Bunch scrambling six yards for still another score. The Panthers continued with 14 more points in the third, on a 48yard trek by senior Chad Newcomer, and Brad Baker’s 14-yard catch for score. Seven more points in the final stanza, off Andrews’ eight-yard run, sealed the fate of the Rockies, who closed out their regular season with a 4-4 mark (2-4 conference). On the night, Dodson was 5-6 through the air, good for 86 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions. Highlights included a perfectly-placed play-action pass from Dodson to Andy Blosser for
