lightning, “The kids are very tired right now. They know they have to work harder in practice before playing four quarters next week. But we played hard and came away healthy. That’s the important thing.” North Wood finished 13-1 last season, and as runners-up in the Class 3 A state finals at Indianapolis. Sixteen seniors graduated from Dodson’s charges, but there are still 21 returning lettermen to form the nucleus of this year’s team. In the opening quarter of the jamboree, the Panthers were edged by host Central, 7-6, with the Blazers scoring quickly, after North-

Wood fumbled on its opening play. Elkhart recovered the fumble at the Panther 22, and scored two plays lata 1 , adding the PAT boot for a 7-0 edge. The Panthers scored off the defense, when Cory Yoder recovered a Blazer fumble in the end zone at the 7:10 mark of the quarter. The PAT attempt was no good. In the stanza, Panther senior QB Andy Roeder completed 3-6 passes for 49 yards, directing a 12-play drive in the closing minutes of the period which ended on a missal field goal with just seconds remaining. A key in the drive was a 22-yard completion to junior running back, Nate Andrews. Neff said of Roeder, “he played well, and kept his composure. The offense is the area we have to replace the most people. For the most past, they played pretty good after the first couple of plays.” The Panthers followed in the second quarter, blanking Northern Lakes Conference rival Northridge, 7-0. In that period, North Wood stopped the Raiders on their initial drive, taking over at the Panther 27. It took a 14-play drive for the Panthers to tally the 73 yards needed for the score, with running backs Matt Bunch, Chad Newcomer and Nate Andrews totaling the yardage.

North Wood scored on a Roeder-to-Newcomer eight-yard pass to the goal-line on fourth-and-six. Junior Matt Martin was good on the PAT kick. In that quarter, North Wood totaled 57 yards in 11 rushes, led by Newcomer’s 40 yards in three carries, including a 29-yard run to set up the score. “Bunch, Andrews and Newcomer all ran the ball well," repealed Neff. “The offensive line was a concern coming into the jamboree. The only returnee, Cory Weatherton, didn't play tonight because of an injury, but he will return to practice Monday.” In that quarter, Roeder hit 3-3 passes for 21 yards. In the final period of play, Northridge fell to Central, 13-0. In JV action, the Panthers battled Central to a 7-7 tie, with Justin Hershberger scoring from 33 yards out. Martin nailed the PAT kick. North Wood also slipped by Northridge, 3-0, with Wes Dodson connecting for a 37-yard field goal at the 5:03 mark. In other JV action, Central edged Northridge, 6-0.
