AT WHITE RIVER Two members of the team swam in the White River Regionals in Indianapolis over the weekend. To qualify for this meet, swimmers need to be in the top three qualifiers from their region. The meet was held in a 50-meter pool. Rachel Eaton-10th 200 free. Undefeated girls capture league title North Wood Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade team went undeafeated during the regular season of the Plymouth Girl’s Basketball League, and captured the league title. This summer marks the first year for this type of league for girls that had been in grades six, seventh and eight, during the previous school year. The games were played each Tuesday and Thursday during June, on the outdoor court at Centennial Park, Plymouth. The League had two different divisions, one made up of just sixth graders and the other dominated by both seventh and eighth graders. The latter division was made up of 15 area teams. League champions on the North Wood team included Angela Hattery, Nichole Stewart, Jamie Gill, Angie Callander, Natalie Will, Amy Zercher, Mandi Huff, Lori Dawn Klotz and Brianne Bumworth. The team was coached by Jim Hess and Gene Zercher.

Tournament closes season
The North Wood “C” baseball team closed out its summer season with tournament action against Bremen, LaVille and Plymouth, taking the Lions and Lancers, and falling to Plymouth in the title round. Against the Lions, North Wood won it 8-3, with Kory Geyer picking up the pitching win and improving his record to 3-0. He allowed just two hits, while issuing 11 strikeouts and eight walks. Geyer also led the offensive thrust, walking three times and smashing a home run for two RBI. Mike Hochsteller also had two hits, both doubles. In game two, the Panthers moved by LaVille 6-1, raising their season mark to 10-2. Todd McDonald got his fourth mound win, striking out eight and allowing just three hits. Offensively, Jerry Schmucker smacked a single and a triple, and scored three runs. Kory Geyer added a triple and a homer—the third
City golf tournament August 6-7 The Nappanee City Golf Tournament will be played Saturday and Sunday, August 6-7, at McCormick Creek Golf Course. Participants must be Nappanee residents, member of McCormick Creek Golf Club, or own a business in Nappanee. On Saturday, players will form their own foursomes, and set their own tee-times. The Sunday round will be flighted, and tee-times assigned. The tournament is for men, ladies, seniors and juniors, and prizes will include money, gift certificates and trophies. Sign up is at the McCormick Creek Golf Course clubhouse. Bowling meetings The Nappanee Men’s Bowling Association will hold its fall meeting Wednesday, August 3, 7:30p.m., at Gold Crown Lanes. The league meetings will be held immediately following the association meeting. All teams should be represented. Persons who want to join the league should also be present. The Women’s Bowling Association will hold its fall meeting *Thursday, August 4, 7:30p.m., at Gold Crown Lanes. The Thursday Night Ladies League will hold its meeting immediately following the association meeting. The Wednesday Morning Coffee League will have its organizational meeting Wednesday, August 3, 9a.m. Please have at least one team member present for this meeting. If you are not on a team, and wish to be, it is important that you attend, or contact Deb at Gold Crown Lanes. The league will begin its season August 23, 9a.m. The Friday Night Mixed League will hold its meeting Friday, August 5, 7:30p.m. Each team should be represented. straight game in which he connected for a round-tripper. In the title game, the Pilgrims stopped North Wood 19-7. The Panthers entered the contest hoping to avenge an earlier loss, but fell short. Geyer started for the Panthers, but an error, two hits, and three firstinning walks led to Plymouth’s four runs. In the third inning, the Panthers scored three times on four hits and an error. Mike Hochstetler hit a double, scoring Jerry Schmucker, who had lined a single to left. Kory Geyer followed with a deep fly that bounced off the fence, for a double. His hit scored Amos Fry and Hochstetler, bringing the Panthers to within one, 4-3, after three frames. Another error, four walks and a hit led to two more runs for the Pilgrims in the top of the fourth, and the Panthers bounced back again in their half of the fifth, scoring two more times. Also in the fifth, Plymouth stretched its lead, scoring five runs on four hits, an error and three walks off the new Panther pitcher, Barry Anglemeyer. Plymouth led at the end of the fifth, 11-5. The score moved to 13-5 in the sixth, but the Panthers came back
