25th ANNIVERSARY--Mr. and Mrs. James R. Brown, CRI9, New Paris, were guests of honor, Wednesday evening, June 29, for a celebration of their silver wedding anniversary. They were treated to a limousine ride, to meet with 15 family members, for a dinner catered by Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Yoder. Jim and the former Linda Holderman were married June 29,1969, by the Rev. Robert Fields and the Rev. Dennis Deeter, at the First Brethren Church, Nappariee. They have three children: Lewis, Jerry and John, all of New Paris.

All senior members of the Nappanee community are invited to become active in the programs of Nappanee’s Elder Haus, a senior center, located at 258 E. Market St. The center is open Monday through Friday for a wide variety of regular activities and special programs. If you have questions, you may call the center at 773-2424. A newsletter is mailed monthly. Ask to have your name placed on the mailing list. Quilting is enjoyed all day on Mondays and Fndays-feel free to bring your lunch and stay the day. There is a microwave available for heating soups and sandwiches. Pinochle and Canasta are offered at Ip.m. Mondays, and Euchre and other games on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lp,m. Friday is volunteer day, and, in Campus notes... Carl E. Bradway, Nappanee, has been named to the dean’s list for the spring quarter of the academic year at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He was among 424 undergraduate students who earned at least a 3.3 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), according to Jess R. Lucas, vice-president fbr student affairs. Rose-Hulman is a private engineering and science college that has been cited by U.S. News & World Report and other national publications as one of America’s best colleges. Rose-Hulman, which has an enrollment of 1,300 students, offers degrees in chemical, civil, computer, electrical and mechanical engineering; applied optics, chemistry, computer science, economics, mathematics and physics. Bradway, son of Tom and Sheri Bradway, 7955 W 1100 N, is a freshman majoring in civil engineering. Kiwanibull... Will Wilson talked about a recent Boy Scout trip to Camp Filmont at the July 18 Noon Kiwanis meeting. Upcoming programs include Phil Trent, Evidence Technician for Special Crimes Unit, St. Joseph County, July 25. Congratulations to Bobbi Wilson, Kiwanian of the Month. The selection was announced at the July 12 meeting. Bobbi received the honor for her work in scheduling the Fair project. Other Kiwanians are asked to sign up to work at the upcoming 4-H Fair steak sales project. Russ and Jean Bolyard and LaVem and Lenore Pletcher visited the Milford Gub, Friday, July 8. Looking ahead-The Elder Haus will sponsor a trip to a “Concert on the Green,” Thursday, July 28, along the Elkhart River. The concert will feature Bobby Wear’s group, bringing music from the big band era. Bring lawn chairs. This is a free concert, and the group will have lunch at Gubi’s following the program. The bus leaves the Elder Haus at 10:45a.m. Reservations are a must. Club notes THIRD DISTRICT The Third District of the Ameri can Legion will hold its organizational meeting, Saturday, July 23, Bp.m., at River Park Post #303,2410 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. TOPS 425 Nappanee Tops #425 met Monday morning, at the First Church of God, with the leader, Lois Miller, presiding. Pledges were repealed and the Tops song was sung. The secretary and treasurer offered their reports, and roll call was taken. A total of 23-3/4 pounds was lost for the week. Phyllis Gonger was the best loser for the 26 members weighing in. “Happy Birthday” was sung to Alma Hershberger. A short program was provided by Anna Lou Helmuth and Elsie Borkholder. The meeting closed with members repeating the Tops Creed. Rotary report The Nappanee Rotary Club featured Dave Bush as speaker at last week’s meeting. He spoke on acupuncture, and was introduced by the program chairman. Dale Tobias. Guests included Karen Robins, intern pastor at First Brethren Church, and Amanda Sumpter, with her mother, Laurie. President Rob Shaw inducted the newest member, Carol Fendt. The club will have a social, July 24, at the lake home of Rick Jenkins. Nappanee Rotary meets each Wednesday noon, at Ron’s Bakery and Restaurant. Visitors are always welcome. Reunion set August 7 Bleily, Blyly, Bliely—There will be a reunion for the descendents of John, Jacob, Andrew and Fredrick Bleily (Fred changed to Blyly during the Civil War), August 7, at the main pavilion at Bonneyville Mill County Park, east of Bristol, off 120. The gathering will begin at noon, with a potiuck shared at Ip.m. Bring your own table service, and food to share, as well as folding chairs, if desired. The family descends from the four brothers, who came from Wurtenburg, Germany, and from Isiah Bliely.

Dial-A-Story features 'Unhappy Chickens' Some greedy chickens Find that life requires both give and take in “The Unhappy Chickens,” this week’s featured Dial-A-Story on the Nappanee Public Library Information Line. The free storytelling services available on a 24-hour basis and is just one of the options on the information line, 773-7920. The story changes on Monday each week to give a maximum number of children a chance to hear a tale before it changes. Auxiliary barbecue August 4 The Community Hospital of Bremen Auxiliary’s 43rd annual chicken barbecue will be held Thursday, August 4, at Sunnyside Park, Bremen, from 4-Bp.m. Advance sale tickets are available at the hospital gift shop, reception desk, or from any auxiliary member. The barbecue will be by Nelson’s Port-A-Pit, and each dinner will include chicken, cole slaw or applesauce, chips, roll and beverage. Home-made pie will also be on sale, by the piece or whole pie. Ticket prices are $4.50 for onehalf chicken dinner, $3.75 for onequarter chicken dinner, and $3.50 for chicken only. Carry-outs will also be available. The auxiliary will also have a drawing for a hand-made Amish quilt, which is on display in the window at David R. Holmes’ law. office in downtown Bremen. Tickets. for the quilt are sl, and may be purchased at The Wooden Peel, Hospital Gift shop, or David R. Holmes’ office. The drawing for the quilt will be at the barbecue.
