Miller-Troyer Announcement is made of the engagement of Regina Lynn Miller, daughter of Howard and Jean Miller, 24239 CRM, Nappanee, and Steve Troyer, son of Harley and Betty Troyer, Goshen. Miss Miller is a 1989 GED graduate of Goshen High School, and is employed as lead waitress at Dutch Cooker, Goshen. Her fiance is a 198 S graduate of Clinton Christian High School, and works as a salesman for Regal Motors, Goshen. They will be married June 25, at the Union Center Church of the Brethren, Nappanee.
Albrecht honored during Oaklawn recognition dinner
aanee resident, Barbara L, was recognized for her service and dedication at the annual Oaklawn recognition dinner, March 3. During the meal, President Harold C. Loewen retognized staff, board of directors, advisory committee members, volunteers and community home associates. Albrecht was thC second recipient of the "Cup of Cold Water Award,” which was created in 1993 in honor of Oaklawn’s 30th anniversary. The award refers to the biblical scripture Matthew 10:42, which
Obituaries Ruth Holloway Feb. 25, 1903-Mar. 8, 1994 Ruth M. Holloway, 91, formerly of 652 S. Main St, Nappanee, died Tuesday, March 8, at Lakeland Loving Care Center, Milford. She was bom February 25, 1903, in Gravelton, to Arch and Nellie (Smith) Yenna, and was a lifetime Nappanee area resident. She married Leroy Holloway, September 19, 1923, and he died April 27, 1971. She had worked at Lamb’s and Uline Manufacturing, and had been a cook with Nappanee High School. She was a member of Nappanee Church of the Brethren. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Ruby) Sawyer, Milford; three grandchildren, and four greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Goldie Osborne. Services were conducted by the Rev. Mike Fowler, Thursday afternoon, March 10, at Thompson & Yoder Funeral Home, with burial at New Paris Cemetery. Memorials may he directed to the Nappanee Church of the Brethren. Evelyn McCuen Dec. 7, 1911-March 11, 1994 Evelyn Yarian Templeton McCuen, 82, died of natrual causes Friday, March-11, at Elkhart General Hospital. She was a resident of #9 Boulder Court, Nappanee. Evelyn was bom December 7, 1911, in Nappanee, to Jacob and Hazel (Smeltzer) Yarian. She was a lifetime resident of the area, and married John “Jack” Templeton, October 26,1939. He proceeded her in death, January 8, 1971. Mrs. Templeton’s second marriage was to Chester "Chet” McCuen, October 7, 1972, and he survives. Also surviving are a son, Dennis Templeton, Nappanee; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Susan) Pletcher, Nappanee; four granddaughters: Mrs. Jeff (Angela Ames) Pletcher Slillson, Nappanee; Mrs. Andrew (Jennifer Jon) Pletcher Wysong, Nappanee; Miss Alicia Templeton, Nappanee, and Miss Stephanie Templeton, Nappanee; a brother, Eugene Yarian, Lafayette; and a sister, Mrs. Genevieve Arrants, Austin, Texas. Proceeding her in death were three brothers: Carlyle, Robert and Frank Yarian. Mrs. McCuen was a member of the Nappanee United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Golden Rule Sunday School Class, Rebekah Women’s Circle, United Methodist Women, and for over 20 years, was a volunteer for the Nappanee United Methodist Thrift Shop. She was also a member of the Nappanee Order of the Easter Star and was a member of several local bridge clubs. Thompson and Yoder Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Janet McFall-Brown led the funeral services Monday morning, March 14, at the Nappanee United Methodist Church, with burial at South Union Cemetery, Nappanee. Memorials may be made to the Nappanee United Methodist Church. Nicholas Galbreath Mar. 8, 1994-Mar. 12, 1994 Nicholas Adam Galbreath, four-day-old son of Jamie Marie Galbreath, 1011 Meadows, Nappance, died at 7:58 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, at South Bend Memorial Hospital. He had been ill since his birth on Tuesday, March 8. Surviving with his mother are maternal grandparents, Patti Galbreath, Nappanee and Greg Rees, Cheyenne, Wyoming and maternal great-grandparents, Lou and Paul Gentry, Knox; Leon and Mary Galbreath, Buchanan, Michi

Charles Ulrich Feb. 22, 1914-Mar. 13, 1994 Charles E. Ulrich, 80, of 67154 Cedar Road, Wakarusa, died at 3:25 a.m. on Sunday, March 13, at Valley View Health Care Center, Elkhart, following a short illness. He was a retired farmer. He was bom February 22, 1914, in Sl Joseph County, to William and Blanche Helmich Ulrich and was a lifetime area rcisent. On April 12, 1934, in Southwest, he married Blanche Thompson. She died on April 6, 1985. Surviving are one son, Charles O. Ulrich, of Blandinsville, Illinois; two daughters: Mrs. Tom (Phyllis) Beets of Fl Wayne and Marilyn Ulrich, Wakarusa; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, William R. “Hud” Ulrich. Funeral services will be today (Wednesday, March 16) at Thompson & Yoder Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dave Edwards, pastor of Oak Grove Missionary Church, officiating. Burial will follow at South Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Aletha Corwin Mar. 22, 1912-Mar. 14, 1994 Mrs. Aletha “Dolly” Corwin, 81, of 102 Northwood Circle, Nappanee, died at 1:40 a.m. on Monday, March 14, at Elkhart General Hospital, following a lengthy illness. She was bom March 22,1912, in Marshall County, to Charles and Ruby Kimble Guard and was a lifetime area resident She was retired from K-Mart Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Eugene (Patricia) Cobb of Elkhart and Mrs. Betty Huffer of Elkhart; one 9on, Richard Corwin, Topeka, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren; three sisters: Mrs. Robert (Lucille) Parcell of Arcadia, Florida; Mrs. Marjorie Rocder of Bremen and Mrs. Kenneth (Phyllis) Walters of Nappanee and three brothers: Paul Guard of Walkerton; Robert Guard of Arcadia and Dean Guard of Nappanee. She was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Guard. Mrs. Corwin was a member of the Nappanee United Methodist Church, the Nappanee Order of the Eastern Star, Pythians and the Nappanee Vj.W. Auxiliary. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 17, at 10:30 am. at Thompson & Yoder Funeral Home, with the Rev. Janet McFall-Brown, Gstor of the Nappanee United ethodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Bremen Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 16) at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Fund.

Club notes GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY The Elkhart County Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, March 24, 7p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 200 East Beardsley Avenue, Elkhart David Eison will speak on the holdings of the Mishawaka Public Library. Visitors are welcome. TOPS 425 The Nappanee Tops #425 Club met at the First Church of God, with Lois Miller presiding. Pledges were repeated and the Tops song was sung. The secretary and treasurer read their reports. Roll call was taken, with 34 members weighing in, recording a weight loss of 32t3/4 pounds. The best loser for the week was Alma Hershberger. Three members stayed the same. Anna Lou Helmuth read a poem, “Chum the Butter.” CURRENT CLUB Current Club will meet Monday, March 21,1:30p.m., at the home cf Susie Pletcher. A special program will be given by the hostess. Rotary report... Rob Shaw was the program chairman at Rotary Club meeting, Wednesday, March 9. He introduced Judy Beachy, John Biggins, Phil Mallard, Greg Lintjer and Maureen Barnett, of the Elkhart YW-YMCA. They showed a video and spoke of the plans to raise 3.2 million dollars to be used .for renovations and reserves. Guests included Rotarians Jeannie Gardner, Syracuse, and Phil Neff, Goshen. Kiwanibull... The Nappanee Noon Kiwanis Club meets each Monday noon, at Ron’s Bakery and Restaurant. Visitors are welcome, Bob Pfaff presented Monday’s program, on the Elkhart YMCA and YWCA programs. On March 7, Bill Wargo discussed a possible career in law enforcement with North Wood High School’s top academic sophomores. North Wood juniors will be special guests Monday, March 21, with Matt Bixel talking about possible careers in banking. Another co-chairperson is needed to work with Maynard Miller on the annual county 4-H fair steak sales project. Allan Kauffman, of the Goshen Noon Club, visited at the March 7 meeting. Lenore Pletcher’s brother, John Doering, of Cincinnati, Ohio, was also a guest. Bonnie Hochstctler has been selected by the board of directors as Kiwanian of the Month for February. Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana will observe National Historic Preservation Week with a statewide photo contest entitled, “What’s Worth Preserving.” * Entrants are invited to photograph what they feel is worth preserving in Indiana. This could be a house, bridge, building, significant sculpture, etc. Both professionals and amateurs will compete for cash prizes. First prize in each category will be $250, second $l5O and third SSO. What’s Worth Preserving? celebrates National Historic Preservation Week in Indiana, May 8-14. Giving away Dogwood trees Ten free white flowering dogwood trees will be given to each person who joins the National Arbor Day Foundation during March. The free trees are part of the nonprofit Foundation’s Trees for America campaign. “The white flowering dogwoods will add year-round beauty to your home and neighborhood,” John Rosenow, the Foundation’s executive director, said. “Dogwoods have showy spring flowers, scarlet autumn foilage, and red berries which attract songbirds all winter.” The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting, between April 1 and May 31, with enclosed planting instructions. The six to 12 inch trees arc guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced free of charge. Members also receive a subscription to the Foundation’s “Arbor Day” news magazine, The Tree Book, with information about tree planting and care, and a membership card. To become a member of the Foundation and to receive the free trees, send a $ 10 membership contribution to Ton Free Dogwoods, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE, 68410, by March 31.
