Celebrate golden Russel J. and Sarah J. Secrist, 5909 N 900 W, Etna Green, will celebrate their golden anniversary with an open house from 2-4 pm, Sunday, January 26, in the Heritage Park Hall, Etna Green. The open house is hosted by the couple’s family. Russel and the former Sarah Gerard were married January 31,1941 in Atwood by Rev. I.E. Longenbaugh. Mr. Sechrist retired January, 1987 as a mechanic from W & W Truck Sales, Inc., Warsaw. Mrs. Sechrist is a housewife. The couple attend Millwood Chapel. They have three children: Dennis, Bremen; Carol (Mrs. Stanley) -Buies, Bourbon; and the late Robert Sechrist, Bourbon. They also have six grandchildren.

The Nappanee site, located at the Church of the Brethren, Mack Drive, is open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities at the site include table games and puzzles, a Tuesday Bible study, and other special activities as announced. Please call the site one day in advance, 773-2228, to make reservations for the meals. There is no set charge - each person is asked to pay just what he feels he can afford. Club news LEGION AUXILIARY The Ladies Auxiliary to the American Legion Post #154 met January 13, for a tour of the Nappanee Emergency Medical Services facilities. EMS Director Mike Stull spoke to the group about his department and the National Security Chairperson Isabelle Dcardorff, presented him with a certificate of appreciation for the great work his department does for the City of Nappanee. Following the tour, the ladies returned to the Post for a business session. Membership Chairperson Betty Slagle reported that the unit is now 100% in membership. The ladies voted to send donations to the Women’s Shelter and to the Ronald McDonald House. June Stoudcr reported on the recent blood bank, and that members worked a total of 87 hours, and gave two pints of blood. Chaplain Madlin Culp conducted a memorial service for Juanita Kamp. Betty Holderman reported that the auxiliary has donated books on flag etiquette to the police department. The books arc on display in the lobby, for any interested person. The next meeting will be held Monday, February 10, 7:30p.m. TOPS 425 Tops In. 425 met Monday morning at the First Church of God. A total of 20 members weighed in, with a loss of 9-1/4 pounds. Two members stayed the same. Elsie Borkholder was the best loser for the week. The lesson was on how long food stays in the stomach. THIRD DISTRICT The Third District of the American Legion will hold its monthly meeting at Bp.ni., Saturday, January 25, at Bendix Aviation Post #284, 23571 Grant Rd., South Bend. Silver anniversary Jack and Beth (Bloomfield) Yoder, 26467 CRSO RRI, Nappanee, were united in marriage January 28, 1967, at the First Presbyterian Church, Nappanee. Their daughters Barb Frederick, Nappanee, and Janet Schieber, Wakarusa, will be honoring them with a 25th anniversary open house Sunday, February 2, at the Midwest Commerce Bank, West Market Street, Nappanee, 2-5p.m.. In addition to their two daughters, the couple have four grandchildren. Jack is a purchasing agent for the Holiday Rambler Corporation, Wakarusa. Beth is employed at the Elkhart Truth, in the mail room.

Eto Zeta Chapter meets

The Eta Zeta Chapter of Psi lota Xi Sorority met January 9, at the Nappanec Church of the Brethren. Co-hostesses were Linda Thompson, Becky Hochstctler, and Donna Pcrsing. Pledging and initiation services were held for new members Tonya Bcchlcr, Angie Honeycutt, and Julie Mast. A letter was received from Camp Millhouse which included a copy of a letter that a camper had left pinned on the door of the Nature Center expressing how much Camp Millhouse means to him. Eta Zeta helps send children to Camp Millhouse each summer. Betty Fcrvida reported that the Leksich hosts Tri Kappa sorority The Tri Kappa Sorority held its monthly meeting Tuesday, January 14, at the home of Kris Leksich-The Victorian Guest House, Nappanee. The meeting included an informative program presented by Beth Beer, a representative for the WaNee Schools. She spoke on the benefits of a Transition One or Step-Up Program. Also discussed was the Christmas auction, which was a big success. A Tri Kappa cookbook is in the making for next year. Tri Kappa members are asked to mail in their recipes, to Mary Miller, chairperson, or bring them to the next meeting. The sorority also plans to celebrate Tri Kappa’s 25th anniversary in March. The members wish to thank Kris Leksich for hosting the meeting. Thanks also to Janice Cunningham, Annette Spitaels and Kim Moore, co-hostesses. The February 11 meeting will be held at the home of Susie Fletcher.

Blood Drive held January 3, was short of its goal. She thanked all of the members who helped. Judi Bums reported that the group had given SBS plus gloves, scarves, games, and other items to the Women’s Shelter for our Christmas project. As a 1991-92 Slate Project, each chapter of the sorority can receive 125 coloring books tilled “Ears are Forever.” These will be distributed to the children at the nursery schools when Eta Zeta conducts their annual hearing tests this spring. Kindergarten students at Nappance Middle School will be making valentines which the sorority members will deliver and distribute at LuAnn Nursing Home. Each child will receive a participation ribbon and free french fries at McDonalds. Plans are under way for Eta Zeta’s annual geraniums and hanging plants sale to be held soon. Also, cheese balls may be available this spring. Watch for information regarding these two fund raising projects. Registering kids for preschool story hour program Registration is now underway at the Nappanee Public Library for pre-school story hour, ages 3-5, and not yet in kindergarten. This winter the library is again offering a choice of either morning or afternoon story hour. The afternoon story hour will begin Tuesday, February 4, l-1:45p.m., and continue through March 11. All children must be preregistered, either by phoning the library, 773-7919, or in person.
