Waves host winter invitational

The Wa-Nee Waves hosted their annual winter invitational Saturday, December 28, at NonhWood High School, Nappanee. The meet hosted over 200 swimmers, the most we’ve ever had, from over 10 different teams from across the state of Indiana. With some of the best swimmers in the state, it made for quite a day. The Waves, who can go to some of the biggest meets in the state and still walk away with several first places, took only one during their own meet. Despite the tough competition, the waves had many personal best times, which is very good considering that most of the swimmers are recovering from the flu. The only first place was earned by someone who had never competed in that event in an invitational before. Andrew Whitehead won the 50 butterfly even though he had not competed in it for over a year. The Waves had several relay teams that competed well for the Waves, and placed well also. The nine and ten-year-old boys’ earned a second place in the 200 freestyle relay, the team consisted of: Josh S" 1 a - , Andrew Whitehead, Randy an, and Aaron Hoover. The nine and ten-year-old girls’ free relay also earned a second place, their relay team was made of: Susan Stump, Shelly Stichter, Rachel Eaton, and Jessica Wamken. The nine and ten-year-old girls’ medley rlay earned itself a third place with Shelly Stichter, Megan Cunningham, Jessica Wamken, and Rachel Eaton. There are enough 11-12-year-old girls to have two relays, one relay team earned a pair of third places in both the medley and free relays, it consisted of: Monica Whitehead, Kristen Stichter, Sarah Eaton, and Elishia Welch. The second relay team earned a pair of fourth places in both relays, their team was made of: Brooke Hershberger, Amanda Hoover, Angie Lehman, and Laura Hollar. A summary of swimmers, places, and events follows. In the girls’ eight and under division: Julia Wamken earned a second ftlace in the 50 freestyle, 25 butterfy, 25 backstroke, and 100 IM, and fourth place in the 25 free; Nichole Adcock placed seventh in the 100 IM, eighth in the 25 breast, 11th in the 25 fly, and 13th in the 50 free; and Jennifer Miller swam to a ninth Slace in the 100 IM, 12th in the2s ly, 13th in the 25 back, 14th in the
