This award is conferred only on hotels that have met or exceeded specific levels of quality and service in every department. Angie Pletcher, the manager of Comfort Inn/Amish Acres, is the only manager in the system to have completed both their Management Development Institute and to receive the Gold Hospitality Award. Some record keeping errors have resulted in fines up to S 10,000 for some companies. To help you keep abreast of the current requirements and to answer any questions you may have concerning the subject on January 24, in the auditorium at the Elkhart Area Career Center, 2424 California Road, Elkhart. The morning seminar begins with registration from B:lsam to 8:30. The morning session will be from B:3oam to 11:30. The afternoon seminar registration is from Ipm to I:lspm, with the session ending at 4:lspm. The charge is sll for chamber members and sl6 for non-members. XXX Business alert-Charles Koontz, manager at Christian Light bookstore, reports money stolen from their safe last Saturday. A group of five people, three women and two men, entered the store and engaged the clerks in coversation while one of the men took money from the safe. All store owners need to beware of this kind of activity.

Library closing The Nappanee Public Library will close on Wednesday, December 19, at 5:30p.m. to allow employees to attend a Christmas party. Regular hours will resume on Thursday, December 20. Also, the library will close at noon on Monday, December 24, in observance of the Christmas holiday. The library will remain closed Tuesday, December 25. Regular hours will resume Wednesday, December 26. The regular library hours are as follows: Monday, 9:00a.m. to 9:00p.m.; Tuesday, 9:00a.m. to 9:00p.m.; Wednesday, 9:00a.m. to 9:00p.m.; Thursday, 5:00p.m. to 9:00p.m.; Friday, 9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m.; Saturday, 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. and Sunday, closed.

Adult classes offered

The winter meetings for adult farmers will begin on Monday, January 7 and continue each Monday night in January and February. An excellent set of topics has been arranged for these sessions. The meetings will begin at 7:3opm and will be held in the North Wood High School cafeteria. These meetings are not just for area fanners but anyone who is interested in attending. Mattingly deployed to Middle East Set. Michael R. Mattingly has deployed to the Middle East with American military forces participating in Operation Desert Shield. Operation Desert Shield is the largest deployment of U.S. military forces since Vietnam. The operation is in response to Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait and threat to Saudi Arabia. “It is the presence of dedicated military people like Mattingly that brings America’s principles to life and gives them strength and meaning,” President George Bush said. The soldier is a squad leader at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Mattingly is the son of David P. and Jane E. Mattingly of 208 South Washington, Wakarusa. He is a 1983 graduate of NorthWood High School.

Bank open Christmas Eve To provide convenience for its customers, Midwest Commerce Bank will be open from 9a.m. to lp.m. on Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24, it was announced by Karen S. Thomson, executive vice president/banking center operations. Ms. Thomson said the pre-holiday hours apply to all Midwest Commerce banking centers, including those throughout Elkhart and in Nappanee, Goshen, Bristol and South Bend.
