Implementation of bike and walking trails, programs for youth and seniors, additional golf course facilities, ball diamonds, and development of the wetland area are all included in the Irfan. Suggestions outlined in the master plan include several for improving West Park. These would include moving the log cabin to the Derksen Farm area, repairing the pavilion, additional playground equipment, basketball and tennis courts, bleachers at the ball diamonds and possible future uses for the pavilion. Board members adopted a resolution adopting the plan as presented by Earth Plan, for presentation to the state. Golf course fees for 1991 were discussed. Since inquiries have been made by persons wishing to purchase family memberships as Christmas gifts, the board set the family membership fee at s2Bo—a cost identical to the 1990 fee, with one exception. Families with more than - three members will pay an addition's! S2O per member for the family membership. Other fees will be announced at a later date. Commission approves alteration application

Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Sitek, 401 North Hartman, presented the Nappanee Historic Preservation Commission with an application of Certificate of Appropriateness. The Siteks are replacing all the windows in their home. The replacement windows will in no way alter the look of the house, and do fall in line with the guidelines set for homeowners in the Neighborhood Historic District. The Siteks’ application was approved as was an application to change a roof line due to a leaking problem at the home of Mr. Dick Mishler. Commission members Evelyn Clouse and Donna Graff, along with circuit rider Todd Zieger told members the “Guideline Booklet for Homeowners” should be finished at the end of January. Christmas concert planned The North Wood Music Department will perform their annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 16, in the high school auditorium. The band and four choirs will perform a variety of holiday music. A highlight of the afternoon will feature area church choir members, as well as some Wa-Nee teachers, when they join forces with the high school choirs and band in a performance of “The Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah. Immediately following the concert, all participants and audience members arc invited to a reception in the North Wood Cafeteria. Admission for the concert is $3 for adults and S 2 for students. Directors Mark Bradley and David Cole would like to invite the Wa-Nee Community to join them in an afternoon of holiday music. The concert begins at 2p.m., with doors opening at I:3opm.

Contest open to residents The Nappanee Historic Preservation Commission would like to enconrage local citizens to decorate their homes for the holidays. Last year, many visitors to Nappanee enjoyed the decorated homes. This year, entries will he judged during the week of December 17-21. Library closing The Nappanee Public Library will close on Wednesday, December 19, at 5:30p.m. to allow employees to attend a Christmas party. Regular hoars will resame on Thursday, December 20. Also, the library will close at noon on Monday, December 24, in observance of the Christmas holiday. The library will remain closed Tuesday, December 25. Regular hoars will resume Wednesday, December 26. The regular library hours are as follows: Monday, 9:00a.m. to 9:00p.m.; Tuesday, 9:00a.m. to 9:00p.m.; Wednesday, 9:00a.m. to 9:00p.m.; Thursday, 5:00p.m. to 9:00p.m.; Friday, 9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m.; Saturday, 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. and Sunday, closed.

Trustees meet The Board of Trustees of the Nappanee Public Library will meet in regular session Tuesday, December 18, at 7:30p.m. The public is invited to attend. Change offices Effective Monday, December 17, the offices of the WaNee Community School Corporation will be moved to 1300 North Main Street, Nappanee. Several interesting people have visited North Wood High School recently. Included among the visitors was Betty Robinson, top photo, of Nappanee, who spoke to a North Wood government class about her years as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C., for the United Auto Workers and lobbying within the state legislature. Also, a group of South Africans, who have been traveling around the United States and South Africa with the Youth Harvest program, performed at North Wood and spoke to several classes about their lives, experiences and their belief that through Jesus' teachings, apartheid can be solved in South Africa. Present Christmas classic

Over the meadow and through the woods, to the Wagon Wheel Theatre we go! Bundle up the whole family and see the presentation of “A Christmas Carol,” December 14, 15 and 16. This timeless classic is the story of how the greedy Ebenezer Scrooge is taught the true meaning of Christmas by three ghosts who guide him through his past, present and future. The large supporting cast will include a number of performers who have appeared at the Wagon Wheel Theatre before, as well as some new, local talent. The aroma of wassail will fill the air, and the decorations will delight the young and old alike. Tickets for “A Christmas Carol” are currently on sale, with special rates available for groups of 15 or more.
